I consider the time and space a tutor gives to the student the most important thing. It is all about what they, as the student, are comfortable with. However, this does not stop another important aspect; pushing a student through their limits in order to achieve their goals. These are the most important things a tutor can do for a student. I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to make the student more confident in themselves which motivates them in their studies so they succeed. I have seen in a personal level how badly confidence can affect someone in their studies. You start doubting yourself and think you are horrible at a subject. This leads to the person to not…

First of all, the most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is be a good communicator and negotiator with a student - Through these two skills, the student and tutor can get on the same page regarding areas that require improvement and how to improve these. Next, I believe a tutor can help the student through explaining…

Encourage a student to build confidence in his/her ability to learn, and praise successes, no matter how small. I have exemplary communication skills, and am patient and kind by nature, which I know to be essential in a teaching/learning environment. Prior to commencing my current degree, I was a Primary Education student for a year, therefore I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is create a supportive environment where the student feels confident to make mistakes and learn from them. Tutoring isn’t just about covering content, but also about helping students build study skills, curiosity, and help them develop future life skills. When students feel understood and…

Secondly time managment, delivery method, discussion between students and parents, questionnaires to understand their views and observation, proper strategies and course plans are the other important things that every tutor should understand. Inside CullacabardeeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lily practised solving linear equations and interpreting probability scenarios, using real-life examples to strengthen understanding.

For Year 9, Ahmed worked on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions with negatives, as well as reviewing sequence patterns from recent classwork.

In Year 10, Sienna tackled trigonometry problems involving bearings and applied Pythagoras' theorem to multi-step questions, focusing on accurate diagram interpretation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student's notes showed a tendency to skip writing out steps in algebra—he often left working blank, which made it hard to spot where the error happened.

For a Year 9 exam revision session, another relied heavily on worked examples and struggled when asked to solve questions independently, indicating over-reliance on prior solutions instead of building confidence with unfamiliar problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner repeatedly avoided showing working for division and long multiplication, leading to confusion during multi-step word problems. This led to repeated errors going unnoticed until review time.

Recent Achievements

One Cullacabardee tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for prompts now tackling exam prep questions independently, even explaining her strategies out loud as she worked.

In Year 7 maths, another student who once hesitated with decimals has started correcting mistakes herself and confidently identifies tenths and hundredths on number lines.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student in the area has gone from struggling with time-telling to finishing both her school worksheet and extra division practice without needing reminders—she even volunteered to try harder subtraction problems this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ballajura Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Illawarra Primary School.
