The most important things I can do for, and with, a student as a physics tutor is are being able to set realistic goals, work towards and track progress towards those goals, and celebrate achievements together. Tutors must know the content that they are teaching, and refresh their knowledge in their own time if they are unsure of something.…

I believe that the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student is to teach them ways of learning and/or studying in which will assist them in school or future purposes. It is also important that tutors a student's strengthen subject comprehension and also help them build more confidence in the subject or learning area. I am…

I believe that a physics tutor must guide the student to learn independently by introducing different methods and techniques to learn. This is because an hour or two of supervised study in a week is not sufficient to learn and excel in a subject. Further, in this modern world with ever expanding technology there are many avenues to study and learn…

Really benefitting the student, not just by teaching them the content in the school subjects but also by teaching them about how to operate and be successful in general. For example teaching things like work ethic, scheduling, time management, how to learn efficiently, how to stay calm under pressure and stress management. I believe there is a lot…

I think a tutor has a lot of power in empowering a student and making them love learning and love the subject. If a tutor can reorient a student's perspective of a certain topic and make the student learn it, it enables the student to engage more with the subject and hopefully increases their passion for learning and education in general which I…

The most important aspect of tutoring is making learning enjoyable! I achieve this though understanding unique learning patterns and teaching specific effective study habits and processes which reduce the stresses and anxiety which are all too commonly associated with exams and assignment deadlines. Once developed, these skills are applicable well…

Inside Currumbin WatersTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Jeremy reviewed Pythagoras' theorem and practiced applying it to exam-style questions, then worked on interpreting frequency tables and constructing histograms.

Year 8 Willow focused on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.

For Year 9 Mia, the lesson concentrated on solving basic algebraic equations and identifying like terms through guided practice.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, one student sometimes glances over the information given to her in questions and even gets confused by her own working out, especially with fractions—missing details led to repeated mistakes and extra time reworking answers.

A Year 11 Chemistry session revealed another student often forgot key equations when not written down; without clear notes, revisiting problems became much harder.

In a Year 7 English task, messy paragraph structure made feedback difficult to act on—the tutor noted that clearer formatting would help responses improve.

Forgetting essential materials for sessions meant some tasks couldn't be completed as planned.

Recent Achievements

One Currumbin Waters tutoring session saw a Year 11 student, Jeremy, independently solve algebra and trigonometry questions—something he'd needed step-by-step help with only a few months ago.

Willow, in Year 8, now regularly spots her own mistakes when working with fractions and can convert them between forms without prompting; previously she'd get stuck unless the tutor walked her through each step.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to hesitate reading aloud has started volunteering to read passages during lessons, showing much more willingness to tackle challenging texts out loud than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Elanora Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Currumbin State School.
