The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to guide them academically and aid their learning outside of their classroom. I believe it is important for tutors to help achieve the students academic goals, and be a mentor that they can rely on anytime. My strength is that I am able to relate to students who struggle with studies,…

There is a quote by William Butler Yeats that captures the essence of what I believe is crucial for a tutor: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." This means that a tutor's role is not just to transfer information to the student, but to spark their curiosity and interest in learning. Therefore, the most important…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student have confidence in himself. This is because, as a tutor nothing brings greater joy than seeing your student succeed. One of my main strengths as a tutor is my experience with the International Baccalaureate program. The IB program is known for its rigorous…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is truly understand them. By this I mean understand who they are as a person and as a student. The most important thing a tutor can do is not only help them through school, but be encouraging and not make students feel less than. This enables them to feel supported through their academic journey from a person who recently gone through their struggles, not just by teachers and parents. A tutor possesses many pivotal roles in a student's journey to tertiary levels. I believe the single most crucial contribution a tutor can make is to fan the flame. If a student gives up on their own ability despite genuine interest, then their potential will be lost. A tutor has the unique capability, and responsibility, to recognise and…

As a tutor you need to provide the individual with problem solving skills to allow them to recognise when a situation is difficult and ways in which they can go about the problem or situation in an effective way to gain insight. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to engage in thorough discussions about their thought processes, providing real-time feedback. We are very happy with Amanat. My son enjoys his sessions with him and that is a huge indicator for me as a parent. Amanat is so lovely and approachable with any questions I have and I like his commitment to my sons learning even though he is busy himself, nothing is ever an issue. I would recommend your business to other people and especially Amanat.

Inside Darling PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex focused on multiplication facts for the 2 and 3 times tables and practised telling time using an analogue clock.

In Year 9, Mia worked on algebraic techniques such as proving for x and completing the square, alongside general revision of key algebra skills.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student James explored logarithms and exponentials by working through targeted practice questions to build confidence with these advanced concepts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, hesitation with back titration and conductivity questions meant responses lacked clarity; as one tutor observed, "she was unable to phrase this concept succinctly and with clarity."

During a Year 8 algebra session, skipping the setup steps in equations led to confusion when isolating variables.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 student's heavy reliance on finger counting for addition delayed her progress with numbers above ten.

In a Year 6 writing task, strong ideas were held back by incomplete inclusion of research—answers existed verbally but weren't written down. Each moment reflected the struggle to transfer thought into clear, independent written work.

Recent Achievements

One Darling Point tutor noticed a high school student who had struggled with pH calculations now tackling multi-step chemistry problems and clearly explaining her approach, something she was hesitant to do before.

Another secondary student who used to rush through subtraction has started pausing to check her work and even created her own step-by-step method for column subtraction, showing real ownership of the process.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who previously relied heavily on finger counting has begun adding numbers mentally up to 20 and recently completed a full worksheet without needing physical aids.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Double Bay Public School.
