The most important thing a tutor can provide I believe is confidence. This is because students' belief in their abilities will provide them with the clear and confident mind necessary to tackle difficult problems. In order to provide this confidence, I believe following a steady pace of teaching with lots of examples is the way. It is also…

To motivate him/her, and pave the way for him/her to become autonomous with his/her learning. This is typically done by instilling in the student a number of good learning habits. I have developed my own teaching/tutoring philosophy. I call it the 4CE philosophy (pronounced Foresee). It consists of five tenets: 1- Coaching/Coordination 2-…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them to work harder for themselves and enjoy Maths rather than just look at it as a chore. I can motivate students to develop their own creativity and intuition. Maths can become enjoyable once a student takes it as a hobby. I believe I am patient and non-judgmental. I can…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. Explain. If a tutor can explain a concept in a way a student can understand and then is able to remember it and be able to apply it, the tutor has succeeded in his role. Also being able to listen to students, as a tutor should be able to find small mistakes and correct them as questions require perfection to some degree to achieve maximum marks.…

Is to empathise with the student. Tell them that you know what it's like to be in their shoes, and put their minds at ease with your ability to translate your expertise to them. Inside DoonsideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia practised solving one-step algebraic equations and explored angles through targeted problem sets.

For Year 10, Daniel worked on trigonometry, including applications of the cosine rule, as well as financial mathematics involving interest calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya focused on HSC revision using past papers, tackling advanced algebra, geometry problems, and consolidating her understanding of measurement concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often checked answers only after finishing all questions, rather than step-by-step—mistakes sometimes went unnoticed until the very end, as one tutor observed during algebra tasks.

In Year 11 mathematics, revision focused mainly on familiar types, avoiding more difficult or unfamiliar problems from recent HSC practice papers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner skipped writing out working in multi-step word problems, which made it hard to trace errors and slowed improvement when reviewing with feedback. This approach left gaps unaddressed and made exam preparation feel overwhelming as deadlines approached.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Doonside recently saw a Year 11 student, who used to get stuck on multi-step trigonometry problems, now confidently apply the sine and cosine rules to solve them without prompting.

In a Year 9 session, a student who often rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to connect concepts together and learn from mistakes between lessons.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started attempting worded maths problems independently instead of waiting for hints—she finished her latest worksheet by applying skills she'd learned in earlier sessions.
