Inside Duffys ForestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Viktoria worked on simplifying fractions, including both proper and improper types, as well as geometry skills with perimeter and area using shared whiteboard activities.

Year 9 Lachlan revised factorising quadratic equations and grouped like terms while also using Desmos to visualise algebraic graphs for better understanding.

For Year 11, Brandon practiced combinatorics and permutations in probability, followed by a review of recent test questions to clarify misunderstandings.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 calculus, messy homework setting out and not looking back at notes led to repeated confusion with chain and product rules. "He needs to look back at his notes when doing homework," a tutor observed—time was lost searching for methods rather than practicing application.

In Year 10 probability, unclear working made it difficult to spot where conditional reasoning went astray.

For a Year 5 student tackling perimeter and fractions, skipping steps or relying on copying formats resulted in missed details; rushed columns meant simple errors crept into otherwise solid logic. Confidence dropped after setbacks, slowing progress even more.

Recent Achievements

One Duffys Forest tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with fractions now accurately solved them in test questions—an area that had been a stumbling block before.

In a recent high school session, Brandon challenged himself by tackling advanced GCSE-level surds problems without hesitation and began using a highlighter independently to break down worded maths questions, something he hadn't tried until recently.

Meanwhile, Viktoria in primary school has started finishing her daily multiplication sheets much faster than before and now consistently attempts every question herself before seeking help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Terrey Hills Community Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Japanese International School.
