The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is that the teacher can make the concept of a topic simple enough that the student can remember it for life. During my bachelor's degree I learned about many things and I used to teach my fellow batch mates and juniors alike. I have excellent communication and teaching skills which make me a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is offer consistent support as well as different ways of explaining concepts. I think it is more beneficial to have a deeper and well rounded understanding of a topic rather than just knowing how to get the right answer. A tutor should also spark interest and enthusiasm in the subject. I am a…

Tutor is the one that shows the way. Student should themselves walk their path. A tutor can show the easy, reliable and fun path for them to move forward. The basic one is patience. Its always a challenge to figure out what works best for each student and i love this part. From my past experiences relying on humor tends to work for teenagers at…

Most important role where a tutor plays is that a student must not feel hesitant to ask anything and they must rely on their tutor about their mental health, their academic health, and in any case scenario, if they want help, they can reach out to the tutor as they feel most comfortable and supported from them. My strength would be my patience and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them grow, allowing students to creatively problem solve by fostering independence. I communicate clearly and concisely. I believe there are two important things that a tutor can do for a student. 1. Answer questions. In school, I was always one of the students who would always ask questions and wouldn't settle or forget about the question if it hadn't been answered. My favourite teachers would be those who would actively put in the effort to answer my question.…

Has been very helpful with my algebra for the defence force. Highly recommend 10 out of 10.
Anthony fisher, Ellenbrook

Inside EllenbrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zariah worked through addition and subtraction using the split strategy and moved on to building confidence with two times tables and doubling.

Year 8 student Jayde focused on interpreting box-and-whisker plots, stem-and-leaf plots, and probability tree diagrams for upcoming assessments.

For Year 10, Arvin tackled financial mathematics by practicing compound and simple interest calculations alongside percentage increases and decreases, applying real-world scenarios for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student frequently guessed answers to worded percentage problems instead of working through each step; as noted, "she needs a bit of improvement with not guessing the answers and reading the question."

In Year 10 trigonometry, a student struggled when multiple triangles were involved in word problems, leading to confusion about which values to use.

A senior student tackling geometric series hesitated to attempt multi-step questions unless formulas were explicitly provided.

One primary learner skipped showing steps for column addition and subtraction—this often hid regrouping errors and slowed progress on more advanced tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Ellenbrook tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who used to rely heavily on answer sheets; now, she's tackling worksheet problems independently and only checks answers at the end.

In another high school session, a Year 10 boy who often rushed through algebra questions without understanding now slows down to break apart equations—he recently filled in a table of values accurately for the first time.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once hesitated to ask for help started raising her hand when stuck and even chose to read out loud during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ballajura Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Helena's Catholic Primary School.
