I believe that a good tutor is not just fixing and teaching math problems but it's more important for me to teach them the logic and the way they thinking so that they could solve problem by themselves in the future. I can help them with the course. I'm a outgoing person and I love kids so I could easily make friends with them and then teach. And…

Personally I think the most important thing for a tutor to do for a child is to create a fun and helpful environment. A child obviously will disengage with a tutor and learning content if the tutor is detrimentally critical of a student which would instill fear and anxiety in the child and in fact, make them absorb less of what the tutor is…

A tutor can help student by making studies easier rather than making it complicated.Tutor can also provide good content resources to a student for further preparation. 1.I am friendly with my students. 2.I am free for my students 24/7 3.I make sure student understands my teaching and provide feedbacks weekly on their progress. 4.I have the…

Personally, I believe it would be helping them gain the confidence they need to recognize their potential and tackle challenges. A successful tutor would be able to inspire students to like their work or at least be willing to give their best. A tutor's job is to support and give students different approaches and mindsets in solving problems so…

Raise their confidence. Teach them to build the skills required for them to be confident and be successful in their studies. Teach them all shortcuts to remember formulae and other subject content. I'm a good listener and good at explaining clearly and I'm patient and caring. I can solve their queries in many possible ways and adapting to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is building a good relationship as the more the student feels connected to the tutor, the more the student trusts and understands the tutor. This makes it easier for the student to understand and learn content quickly. I'm a quick learner and can quickly learn new content that is needed to be…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make the student feel at ease with the subject at hand, especially to the point where they begin their own individual methods of inquiry into the subject. A student should never feel under pressure to perform in ways that make them feel discouraged about their own abilities. The consequence of that is…

A tutor should be patient because throughout my 5+ years of experience, I have students with exceptionally good abilities and also students who need time to understand a specific content properly. However, I have also seen that these students who take more time in understanding something are usually the ones in achieving better results. A tutor…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for students is to give them support and show that you are willing to explain the concepts, help them with their problems and answer all their questions as long as they don't understand. I'm an optimistic and patient person. I believe I have the ability to encourage the students and motivate them by…

The most helpful tutors, in my experience, have always been able to explain the theory behind mathematical units in simple and understandable ways. They also need to recognise the abilities and shortcomings of their students and tailor questions to this level. I have a very solid understanding of the mathematical concepts used in the IB course. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop their confidence and skills to be able to problem solve independently. That requires building a students skills to not only understand the techniques which can be used but also how to most effectively apply them. This is particularly important as it enables students to become…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do is to explain things as simply as possible and make sure the student fully understands the subject by testing them with examples. I also think that it is important that the student feels they can ask any question they want without feeling embarrassed. It is also important to form a strong…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them and gives them a goal which they should work towards, as many students do poorly in exams simply because they lack a goal or something to work towards. If they have clear goals this makes achieving good results much easier. I am patient with students especially…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Being a student myself I have been reluctant to ask questions due to fear of being labeled slow or dumb. It is also frustrating not being able to understand the subject as the class flies by the materials. However, during tutoring sessions, the tutor should be able to…

The most important thing about tutoring is making sure you are working towards your students confidence. No matter what it takes or how long it takes, what matters is that they feel confident enough in their ability to execute what they came in struggling with. I also think active listening is an important skills because a tutor can become a…

One of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, is not only make the subject fun and easier to understand but to make the student believe in himself/herself. Facilitate the student's own learning by equipping them with the tools to then seek out how to learn and solve problems, and allowing the student to go where they want to go. I have always felt the most important thing to do for them is to - rid them of the fear of that subject and making them self sufficient. Ezy and professional all the way! The response time was quick (after we had had poor results in our prior attempts to organize a tutor for our son) We had our first tutoring session 2 days after making contact, and the result has already started to show only a couple of weeks in. They also follow up with interesting support material to compliment the sessions and make sure you as parent have realistic understanding on how the process works.

Inside ErskinevilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Sam focused on algebra basics and graphing, then moved into trigonometry topics like similar triangles and the law of cosines, using diagrams to clarify each step.

For Year 10 student Jamie, lessons addressed linear equations and systems of linear equations, along with strategies for solving quadratic equations and interpreting graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Alex worked through algorithms for subtraction and multiplication after a pre-assessment identified current strengths and set clear math goals.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student found multi-step word problems overwhelming, struggling to identify key information and break tasks into manageable parts; "she stated that she is often overwhelmed at all the information given to her."

In Year 11, missing out on reviewing ratios and rates before a test led to easy marks being lost, as noted when the student relied on their own judgment rather than systematically covering all topics.

For a Year 12 student, skipping questions on a practice exam meant they missed opportunities to apply feedback or clarify uncertainties. This sometimes left gaps unaddressed before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Erskineville noticed Kiera is now independently tackling tricky algebra problems—she used to wait for help, but recently solved most on her own and even explained her thinking out loud.

Raphael, a high school student, showed real initiative by trying different problem-solving strategies his teacher suggested; he completed complex algorithms without prompting and was eager to dive into programming Flappy Bird after a demo.

Another win came when Kiera finished the entire trigonometry set perfectly this week—without needing any assistance from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Erskineville Public School.
