Helping them in their studies and aid them in obtaining a high grade for their future career pathways. To add up, I also think that a tutor is an influential impact on the students' educational life and work life. I am calm in teaching as well as understanding when a student is struggling. I will help as much as I can in teaching them and making…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is having patience. By having patience, a tutor creates a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as it is an important part of the learning process. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is my ability to adapt to different learning…

Show the student how to learn something. If a tutor can explain another way of looking at problems so that the student understands how to approach them, its the most useful thing for them. I think that a great tutor will eventually make themselves unnecessary. I think that I am able to adapt quickly to students learning types, as well as…

First is to teach the student not only what to do but why they do it. This results in greater retention and a sense of meaning toward what they are studying which has a great motivating effect. Second, is to base learning off practice questions. I believe experience is the best and fastest way to learn - thus i will focus on producing good…

I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. So, the student should totally grasp the concepts at hand. A tutor can help the student realize their passions, and help them achieve it. Making the students interested in the subject by…

I think tutors must be able to assist students with subjects in depth and be able to explain concepts in an understandable manner. Build their confidence so they can solve problems independently, like debugging code on their own. Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
