Moreover, I want to bring effective teaching methods to help students understand the lessons easily and feel love for math. Thanks to my experience as a tutor in my country and I also completed some Australian math certificates when I…

Personal relationships are foundational to student success. The more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. I listen to students well so that I can better understand their misconceptions and errors. I would encourage them in the learning process…

I believe that every child is unique. But as they grow older, their creative confidence is lost. Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

Making mistakes feel safe. If a student is afraid to get something wrong, they'll never actually engage with the material; they'll try to avoid being caught not knowing. The most important thing a tutor can do is create an environment where asking for help early feels like the smart move, not the embarrassing one. Because the longer you wait, the…

I think teaching students how to be independent is something tutors must do. Prioritizing things like active learning wherein students get to question things themselves, rather than being spoon-fed answers is important. Making them learn that they can find the answers themselves if they put in the effort is important. And obviously creating all…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them discover self-motivation. By fostering a sense of intrinsic drive, students become more willing to delve into and excel in the subjects they love. I consider that helping them to understand the concept by themselves instead of doing their job, is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student because that is the way they learn. Also, giving a positive and encouraging environment makes them feel comfortable in the tutoring session. -Experience of more than nine years. -Major strongly…

It is important to make the student feel comfortable when you are tutoring them. When they are comfortable, they would be more open to explaining themselves to you about concepts they don't understand. This would then make it easier for the tutor to explain the concept and help them understand it better! Another important aspect is how you…

I believe having a tutor who presents work in a manageable and stepwise manner is key. many students are embarrassed to admit when they don't understand concepts they may think are simple, or are intimidated by the seeming difficulty of some of the work. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student in primary or high school education is to instill confidence in them to become a curious learner. Inside GardenvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Nikki focused on solving real-world division problems like calculating cost per kilogram and interpreting results in full sentences, as well as practising key elements of showing working and reasoning.

Year 8 student Celia worked through index laws using examples to solidify understanding, and revised algebraic equations ahead of her test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Bonnie tackled trigonometry topics including sin/cos/tan ratios and the Pythagoras theorem, with extra attention on applying formulas to a variety of question types.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's working was repeatedly erased instead of crossed out during scientific notation tasks—"This will waste a lot of time especially during tests," as noted by the tutor.

In Year 11, missing key details in text-heavy exam questions led to confusion when indirect information was required, not just direct calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled to keep their answers organized in multi-step fraction problems; they tended to panic when timed and lost track of steps.

For a senior English essay, lack of planning made it hard for ideas to flow smoothly between paragraphs, leaving arguments disconnected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gardenvale noticed a big change with Celia, a high school student who used to hesitate when faced with new algebraic laws—now she's not only picking them up quickly but also applying them independently during sessions.

In another case, Bonnie, also in high school, showed real initiative by pinpointing which maths topics she struggled with before her exam and then confidently using her CAS calculator to tackle those questions on her own.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently surprised her tutor by clearly writing down every division question she found confusing instead of skipping them, making it easier to review and master those tricky spots together.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Elsternwick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Leibler Yavneh College.
