Most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is to influence the student to become more ambitious and help them learn things quickly and in a more smarter way. Ability to understand each student's calibre and teach according to it in a simpler and friendly…

To help them find and understand the answers themselves, opposed to just being told answers, or given formulas without proper explanation. This helps them not only understand there answers but also question answers they believe to be incorrect. I have good communication skills and I'm very patient. I also feel that my enjoyment for these subjects…

I believe a tutor is all about being able to be the middle man between teachers and students. They are able to act in a professional manner but also can individually suit the needs of a specific student. In doing this tutors are able to fill in those missing links and hopefully create a sense of confidence in students that they might otherwise…

Local Reviews

Hannah is calm, patient , proficient , punctual and perfect match with my daughter. She is flexible in her approach and will work on what's needed by the individual in that lesson rather than impose a schedule of teaching. Since commencing coaching with Hannah my daughter is more confident in her approach to HSC maths and her performance has definitely improved in class and in her exam results. We are very happy with her. Thanks Hannah.

Inside GatesheadTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tiffany completed a maths skills assessment to identify focus areas and then worked on core number and algebra skills.

For Year 11, Alex revised the Quadratic Formula and practised completing the square using step-by-step methods for solving quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, a Preliminary HSC student concentrated on exam revision in calculus, functions, polynomials, and trigonometry, working through targeted problems from recent school assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to show full working in algebra, often skipping steps when solving equations; as noted, "writing down steps & showing working—really need to focus on this one." This led to repeated sign errors that slowed progress during problem-solving.

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete review of titration calculations and enthalpy concepts left key gaps before exams, while feedback on practice essays for Year 12 English was not consistently incorporated, resulting in similar mistakes reappearing.

For a Year 5 learner, confusion with multiplication and division arose partly from inconsistent revision habits at home. Moments of frustration surfaced as test deadlines approached and confidence wavered.

Recent Achievements

One Gateshead tutor recently noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to interpret worded questions, now writes out every step and can find the correct variables without prompting.

In Year 9 maths, another student has started asking for clarification when confused about indices problems—something she used to avoid—and is now more confident working from the bases up.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student moved from being unsure about terminology at first to correctly naming all main 3D shapes by the end of the session and even tackled two previously incorrect questions on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Windale Library, bilyabayi—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hunter Sports High School.
