Build the confidence of the student.Whether it be in asking a question from me or confidently answering a quesyion on a paper. Also making the student see the beauty of what they are learning is important. Learning not just for the sake of a grade but learning to understand the beauty behind concepts . I am very patient and understanding, which…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for their student is boost their morale. As a student who got tutored, I was always embarrassed of receiving extra help with my subjects as I thought it meant I wasn't as smart as others. I was blessed to be tutored by a teacher who continuously reminded me that it was okay to be tutored as it meant…

I believe that students need to become motivated and strategic to learn well. Therefore, as a tutor, my main aim is to help my students achieve a better academic result through providing them with engaging interpretations and thorough explanations of the key principles behind each concept. This way, the students get to immerse themselves in the…

Having that listening ear for your student is important as every child is different. As such, it is important to know and acknowledge that each student will have a different skill set and thus succeed in different approaches. That listening ear will be helpful and important as this will give the student opportunities to explain themselves more…

A tutor needs to not only ensure that students get good grades, for me personally, it is equally important to boost each student's problem solving skills and creativity.…

Build their self confidence and the ability to be self sufficient. Mindset and attitude plays the most vital role to success in life. Just like school teachers, tutors play a massive role in setting a positive learning environment where students want to learn for their goals and ambitions rather than a student who just wants to get their lesson…

I think so rather than just teaching them if a tutor can actually make hard concepts easier for other students by using their experience and actually make learning fun then it would be really helpful for a student. From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Once they are comfortable with a tutor, they are more open to questions in their mind and try solving them one on one with the tutor. On this note, I find being a tutor amusing as I always find solving their…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, provide personalized support, and create a positive learning environment. Every student learns differently, so it’s crucial to adapt teaching methods to suit their needs. A tutor should also encourage questions and make sure the student feels comfortable…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that they can truly understand the student's problem and help in a way best suited for the individual instead of a generic method. They should also assist the student and not add to their difficulty in understanding the topic. My strengths are that I am a good listener and can articulate my…

To individualise teachings tailored to the needs of a given student. Every student is different, from personalities to their academic goals. Tutors should identify what sort of unique methods they should approach their students to give them the best tutoring experience! I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is make the student feel truly listened to. When a student feels heard and understood, they gain confidence. I also believe it's about helping them fall in love with the subject not just memorise it. If they can connect with the topic and see its value or beauty in some way, learning becomes…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient and cheer on their student, allowing the student to maintain their self esteem even when they are having trouble. Local Reviews

Thanh has increased my daughter's confidence in her maths ability. She has a no nonsense but fun approach that keeps a teenager positive about continuing tutoring. My daughter likes that Thanh has different methods of teaching concepts that make more sense to her. And best of all she is positive about my daughters progress.

Inside Glen WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kye worked on long multiplication with two- and three-digit numbers (including zeroes) and was introduced to division using visual strategies.

Year 7 student Elle focused on probability concepts, tackling practice questions involving multiple events and converting fractions to decimals as part of test preparation.

For Year 8, revision for Kye included rearranging algebraic equations and reviewing fundamental skills in bracket multiplication, helping consolidate methods for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student struggled to bring past tests for review, which meant missed chances to clarify recurring mistakes—"he couldn't check which algebra steps were lost in the test."

In Year 8 maths, forgetting to attempt set homework limited practice with foundational topics like BEDMAS and basic equations.

One Year 6 student often tried questions in their head without showing working; this hid errors when tackling area problems.

Across both junior and senior years, not recording confusing questions during school videos led to gaps that lingered into lessons.

Without these process tweaks, confusion quietly accumulates between sessions.

Recent Achievements

A Glen Waverley tutor noticed some great changes lately. Kye, a high school student, recently brought home his data test with 93%—a big leap after earlier trouble remembering statistics concepts, and he now checks his notes to solve new problems without prompting.

Elle, also in high school, picked up algebraic angle questions much faster than before; she's started explaining her working out aloud rather than guessing quietly.

Meanwhile, Trishelle (primary) has begun completing all her homework each week on her own initiative and points out exactly which maths areas still worry her before starting new tasks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley Secondary College.
