Give time, especially more before the exam. This is because that is the time when most of the problems about the subject come out. Also, the tutor needs to make sure that the student understood the topic. The tutor should be willing to explain the topic as many times as the students want to. I can adapt very quickly. I put myself in the shoes of…

I think a important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student processes and patterns that can be applied to problems that have a similar goal. My experience in retail has taught me patience and also how to deal with stressful situations. This experience helps me tutor with a more understanding…

It can be overwhelming to feel confused or left behind in school which can eventually affect your self-confidence. Tutoring gives students a safe space to learn at their own pace without feeling judged or incapable. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my patience and ability to simplify complex concepts in ways students can relate to. I can…

Every student is special and expecting same response from every student is really not good . The velocity with which the child,s brain works is really different from kid to kid so the explanation from a tutor side has to be made again and again without thinking of his time till a sense of satisfaction is achieved from every student As a tutor, i…

To understand a student, the way they learn, behave, their interests, everything about the student can really help in the teaching style for them. By understanding the student, a tutor can effectively refine the student's thinking capabilities and take their knowledge to a whole another level. Since I am only 19 years old and recently graduated I…

A tutor needs to be able to successfully teach the student the material but also needs to provide the motivation and confidence a student needs to study and conquer any tests/exams. Students study around the clock, thus a tutor needs to be available when assistance is most required to provide the necessary support. Also recognise that many things…

I find that addressing the finer parts that students find more challenging is essential for a tutor. While students may have already covered the concepts in class, the learning process is often not tailored to their individual needs. A tutors role is to adopt a more personalised approach, taking the time to understand each student’s unique level…

To make the experience as enjoyable and seamless as possible. Learning in a school setting can be quite arduous and stressful for some due to the lack of individual attention and just sheer workload. I’ll make the learning experience smooth and positive, as this creates a positive-feedback loop which will aid the student look more into the…

A tutor should ensure that a student does not simply memorize material, but that they understand it. Understanding is not enough, however, and so I believe tutors should actively focus on allowing students to apply concepts that they have learned to consolidate their understanding and comprehension of the source material. It is important for…

I believe that a tutors role is to build a student's capability and confidence to engage with and excel in the materials they are provided with in their studies. For some students this means focusing on fundamentals that may have been overlooked, for some this means teaching them to apply what they know to new contexts and for some this simply…

I believe that a tutor's most important job is to build a student's confidence. Most particularly when a student is struggling, building confidence allows them to feel that they can try and fail, which is essential to learning. With more advanced students, confidence allows them to stretch themselves even further. I believe I have developed a…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. As briefly mentioned in the question above, the most important things tutor can do for a student is to not make the experience another class that "drags on". Interacting with the student on a level where he/she can enjoy or be intrigued by the work is essential. To do this, you cannot let the theories from a textbook stay as theories.…

I believe a tutor should complement, not replace, teachers and school. Instead, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to take advantage of the time they spend with students individually to identify the core roadblock that prevents their understanding, and then clear it, in a way that teachers, with a class of thirty students,…

A tutor has an integral part of a student's schooling journey. Obviously, a tutor is going to assist students with their academic needs, but there are also other important duties that a tutor must fulfill. From my own experience, I can say that a great tutor seeks to understand the student's ambitions. This includes but is not limited to…

Be able to come up with a of going about problems that arise in mathematics in a way that works for the student as each student is different. Inside GlenroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia focused on linear equations and simultaneous equations, including tackling worded problems step-by-step.

Year 10 student Daniel practiced structuring and writing oral presentations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, using example prompts to build confidence.

For primary support, Year 4 student Emily worked through addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers as well as identifying and describing 3-D shapes, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

Incomplete homework was a recurring issue in both upper primary and high school students.

For example, one Year 7 student repeatedly left English essays unfinished despite a signed contract—this resulted in missed opportunities for feedback and impacted his spelling test performance, as "most of the spelling words are taken from his homework."

In senior years, a student preparing for public speaking assignments neglected to complete assigned drafts, leading to less confidence during oral presentations.

A Year 6 maths student's messy layout—"he struggled aligning sums, which caused mistakes"—meant extra time spent correcting basic errors instead of advancing to more complex problems.

Recent Achievements

A Glenroy tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when tackling worded maths problems now confidently translates them into equations and solves them with much less prompting.

In Year 7 English, one student who previously struggled with structuring essays has begun planning their arguments independently and linking ideas between class and tutoring sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 was initially hard on himself for spelling errors but is now more accepting of mistakes during tests, showing resilience by quickly moving on and finishing all questions without dwelling on previous slip-ups.
