The important thing a tutor can do for a student is to increase their curiosity about learning a topic. So they can do self-study and be interested in learning. Because a tutor will teach for 1-2 hours max after that a student has to study by themselves and without enough curiosity and will to learn they won't be able to do that. My strengths…

Being able to understand the student and forming a connection with them are both really important things. A student will be more willing to learn if they are comfortable with you. Not only that, they will be happy to see you every tutoring session, which brings joy and takes the uneasiness off the tutoring session. I'm able to break ideas down…

As a tutor, I believe it is very important to teach and advice on 'how to study' along with concepts. Throughout my undergraduate degree, through friends, my tutors and lecturers, I have learnt many tricks and tips which I love to share with my students making them understand concepts better and build a liking for the subject. I enjoy what I study…

"You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink". I believe the best role of a tutor is to be a guide to their students; show them the path to succeed in their goal (tests). A tutor should always find out ways to improve their students and build their confidence. Supporting the student's even in their lows is a quality I believe all…

I think a tutor should be able to empathize with students, understand their situations and make reasonable targets for them to achieve academically. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them to understand the topic and not just to help them complete the assignment. It is easy to sit with the student and help them through each step and each problem to complete some assignment, but if they did not understand it then the session was essentially useless for…

Being a tutor, one can do a lot of things for a student apart from teaching. A tutor has the responsibility of mentoring the students in career and general life. The tutor should be empathetic and able to understand the student to provide relevant support. I am a high achiever myself. Being a uni student, I can relate to the students' problems in…

Tutoring with Sakshi has been going really well thanks. She's a really good fit for Felix who was a bit reluctant to get tutoring. She has a lovely, calm demeanour and clearly knows her stuff. she relates well to Felix, and he's making progress already as reflected in his grade.

Inside GreenacresTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Isabelle worked through advanced integration techniques and completed practice on optimisation problems, while also reviewing feedback from a recent test.

In Year 11, Sam revised trigonometric graphs using the Haese textbook and explored probability with real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Petra focused on solving linear equations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, building confidence by practicing a range of algebraic questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 calculus, one student struggled to apply textbook derivative rules and tended to leave working incomplete—she needs to work on how to do derivatives using the specific rules from the textbook.

A Year 8 student's solutions in algebra were difficult to follow due to inconsistent layout, making it hard to spot calculation errors.

In a Year 5 session, reluctance toward completing set homework meant new times tables weren't mastered before moving forward.

During a senior review set, "he could try to improve the way he writes his solutions," as messy formatting made it harder for both tutor and student to track progress and correct misunderstandings in real time.

Recent Achievements

One Greenacres tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with differentiation—she now implements all the required formulas correctly and is starting to tackle sign diagrams on her own, after previously relying heavily on guidance.

In another session, a Year 9 boy worked through complex exponential exercises and was able to solve most questions independently, only making minor mistakes where he would have been stuck before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once needed visual aids for division surprised her tutor by grasping the concept abstractly this week and solving problems without extra support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin's Catholic Primary School.
