I should be able to make learning fun for the student and make the student feel more confident while dealing with the subject. The student might slowly develop liking for the subject if they find it easy and interesting. The most important task that should be done is that the concept is clear for the student such that they don't ever feel the…

Explaining the concepts clearly and easily along with appropriate examples are the must for a tutor. But, more importantly, a tutor should help students cultivate good habits like hard work, discipline, confidence, time management etc. By doing so, a student not only grows academically but also personally. And this can help them in the future. I…

To support and give great motivation to the student is the most important thing. Having the thought that everybody can learn and be able to success in learning if the student found interest in the subject. I often explain the solution with step by step method, trying to simplify complex solution, and I often use easier example or simulation in…

I would like to answer two points which are very important 1. The tutor must understand the feeling of the student so as to understand where he/she is facing problem in the subjects. If you are able to remove the problem you are half way down. 2. If a tutor can make change from students' hate for the subject to love for the subject in my view is…

Engage with them in such a way that the student actually wants to be at tutoring sessions. There is no benefit to tutoring sessions where the student has no respect or inclination to listen to a tutor. 1-on-1 or small group tutoring gives the student the attention that they may be lacking from a classroom environment, so this is the perfect…

In my opinion, the role of a tutor goes beyond simply imparting knowledge. The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to inspire confidence, make them love learning, and equip them with the tools to thrive independently. To teach students that it is okay to be wrong or make mistakes as long as you correct it afterwards. It is important to attempt to answer each question on a test and work sheet as if you attempt it then you might get some points on your final grade. It is also important to become self confident and trust that you can tackle any problem. I will…

To be patient while teaching new topics to students. It may be frustrating if a student cannot grasp the topic well directly, but the tutor should constantly remember that the students learn at very different speeds and that is okay. A tutor should cater to the students' needs, for example, ask the students on the topics they feel the least…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is share their passion for the subject. This requires the tutor to be committed to helping the student understand the target subject in a way that is unique to each and every student. In the best case, having a brilliant tutor allows a student to create a pathway and a future in a…

The most important trait that a tutor must have is patience and drive. A good tutor knows results aren’t instant but rather earned and worked for. I think my strengths as a tutor revolves around my ability to connect to students and their specific needs as I wouldn’t consider myself gifted, but rather someone who knew how to get the best…

Being a good tutor requires you to be a good listener. Without listening to problems that students may experience, the time spent for both the student and the tutor will be wasted. A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

Absolutely I'm happy. My son has quickly been set up with a great tutor with whom he can relate to. My sons confidence with his maths tasks improved within 2 weeks. I Highly recommend using this site.
Hannah, Hampton

Inside Hampton EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on doubling large numbers and solving multi-step addition problems, then briefly explored fractions using real-life examples.

In Year 9, Liam worked through factorising algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets for his upcoming maths test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as exponential and logarithm questions to deepen understanding ahead of advanced assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 science, a student's note-taking was minimal—he rarely wrote down key lesson points, making later revision harder (he should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book).

During Year 10 algebra, skipping written steps hid small calculation errors and cost marks.

In a Year 11 maths test, time management faltered: "she said she ran out of time during the test so she rushed questions," leading to avoidable mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student completed only familiar multiplication problems for homework, avoiding trickier types and slowing her progress with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hampton East recently noticed some great shifts in students' approach to learning. One Year 10 student who used to leave tough algebra questions blank is now confidently writing out each step and even drawing diagrams to break down worded problems—something he hadn't tried before.

Another high schooler, after initially rushing through homework, has started spreading out her practice over the week and now gets more answers right without extra help.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously hesitated with times tables volunteered that she'd begun exploring fractions on her own and wanted to tackle harder ones next lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
