The learnings given by a tutor needs to be tailored as per the student.. Every individual is different, has different interests, has different caliber. We need to understand their potential, unlock it and provide our boost to it. I am a very patient person and understand that i may need to repeat my explanations as needed. Sometimes I might need…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. I am able to think outside the box when it comes to tutoring and find that using mnemonics, rhymes and even little songs that may help students to…

Every student has a different learning capacity. Understanding their capacity and motivating them are very important. A tutor can be a huge support to a student’s success in both academic and life. The aim of accepting a tutorial for a student is to achieve higher academic result. Yet for a tutor, it is not to merely give answers straight the way. In my point of view, tutoring is receiving inquiries and giving tutors' knowledge. A tutor should acquire abilities to help students first understanding the basic ideas buried in deep, and grow…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence alongside their understanding. It’s not just about getting the right answer; it's about helping them believe they can get there themselves. Creating a supportive, non-judgmental space is really important, as is adaptability and attention to each student's needs. A…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

I consider that a tutor should be a good teacher but also a good person. He should be able to communicate and transmit his passion to give the desire to learn. According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. A good tutor needs to understand the student's needs and areas of weakness and work on them. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the students. Students have different beliefs and perspectives to see a problem, and as a tutor, it's his responsibility to understand students and help them in need. Also, the tutor should be able to connect with students and solve their problems not just related to the subject but also help…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to listen patiently and understand the student's real challenges -- whether the issue comes form gaps in knowledge, unclear concepts, or lack of exam techniques. The role of a good tutor requires to guide students through each stage of learning while showing areas that need improvement. One of…

The tutoring was fantastic. Izzy really enjoyed working with Maitreyee and feels fairly confident about how her test went (she even rang and said she would have been lost without the tutoring).

Inside HeathpoolTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Armando worked through solving **simultaneous equations** and applying geometry skills to perimeter and area problems.

For Year 11, Sarah focused on bivariate statistics by analysing **line of best fit**, calculating least squares regression, and interpreting interpolation and extrapolation using her calculator.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Tom reviewed **exponential regression** for a bivariate statistics assignment and practised financial modelling with real-life examples such as loan calculations and offset accounts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student's written working in matrix calculations was often hard to follow—labels and steps were missing, making it easy to miscopy numbers.

For a Year 11 assignment, uncertainty about task requirements led to confusion: "he agreed to check/clarify with his teacher," but the delay slowed progress.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student preparing for exams relied heavily on calculator graphs without always adjusting scales or double-checking results; this meant errors sometimes went unnoticed until revision.

Across all years, moments of low confidence after setbacks have led some students to avoid unfamiliar problem types during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Heathpool tutor noticed that Armando, a high school student, recently bounced back after missing lessons due to illness by arranging extra meetings with his teacher and showing strong understanding in statistics and financial concepts—he even scored a B+ on two practice exams and could pinpoint areas for further improvement himself.

Another high schooler, Alia, who used to hesitate at the start of new problems, now attempts all worksheets independently before seeking help and has kept organised summaries for each topic; she achieved 87% in her last test.

In Year 7, one student confidently plotted graphs independently of linear relationships without guidance for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marryatville High School.
