Inspire. Children are an inspiration to their teachers. As mentioned before, children are an inspiration to me since I get to learn from them as much as they get tutored from me. Understanding and patient. A lot of parents and teachers lose their patience and become unempathetic while teaching little children, however they're still learning and…

As a tutor, the most important things I can do for my students is to listen, give them time and create a safe space for them where they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and leave each session having learnt something new. I can empower students by acknowledging and tailoring learning content to meet each of their specific and individualised…

An effective tutor can make a student feel more confident and engaged with the learning process. They can make students excited to learn new concepts and to challenge themselves, rather than shying away from these challenges. Marks can be important, particularly for older students, and are a tangible outcome for students to measure their…

After school help is the one thing I feel all students require. A tutor can provide that requisite help and enable students accelerate their learning and cognition for better performance and a better future. Tutors also help students stay focused and disciplined while out of school. So, it gives the necessary direction that every student requires.…

Tutors must foster growth, independence, and a goal-oriented mindset so that each student can strive to overcome learning challenges, recognise their milestones, and identify any incompetencies in their work. This will ultimately strengthen their academic confidence, and allow students to grow from their mistakes. I have been able to adapt to a…

To be there for a student in a more personal and approachable way than the modern education system and its teachers can be, to help 'fill in the gaps' that the student may have missed in class and to be there for the student if they feel like the education system has failed them. Too many schools focus on the groups needs rather than the…

This not only helps students gain confidence but also equips them with the tools to tackle educational challenges and take ownership of their learning. My…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide a deep understanding of the material being studied, and to explain it in such a way that the student remembers and understands. A good tutor must be able to tailor their approach to best help each student and facilitate a positive learning environment. The strengths I will…

I think a tutor should provide a fun, engaging and different approach to studying. A tutor should ask questions in a way a teacher hasn't got the time to do. They should always ask what the student wants and implement strategies as to how to attain these goals. But, perhaps at the forefront of responsibility, a tutor should always make sure the…

Making the student sharp by regular homework/assignments and making them fall in love with the subject and eventually learning are very important in my opinion. Identifying students strengths/passion and grooming them is another very imperative factor. I think…

Personally, a tutor is someone outside of school who the student can rely on for their studies. Students show their vulnerability here so that tutor can build them to be strong at school. So a tutor can help the student be strong on their subjects and understand the subject with life. Understanding the student on what they need first and being…

Teach and help them learn by listening to what it is that they need help with. Each student is different so developing an individual way with each one is very important as a tutor. From the moment Jess walked in the door she was engaging and warm. My daughter took to Jess straight away and the teaching methods were at my daughter's pace and gave her confidence in maths again. I'm glad I made the decision to use a tutor at this crucial at the start of high school. I'm already impressed by Jess' professionalism and successful teaching methods.

Inside KeiravilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia focused on coordinate geometry for an upcoming assessment, working through challenge questions and applying trigonometric relations like solving for sin(x) and cos(x).

Year 10 student Alex revised logarithms by evaluating expressions using log laws and properties, then tackled trigonometry with complementary angles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam addressed network and critical path analysis in preparation for assessments, breaking down project scheduling problems into clear steps.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, a student relied heavily on calculators during algebraic simplification—"maybe a little less reliance on the calculator for some of them"—which masked gaps in formula recall and slowed independent problem-solving.

A Year 8 learner struggled to organise working out neatly when tackling worded questions; copying negative signs incorrectly led to small but recurring errors.

In Year 5 maths, another student's difficulty reading analog clocks and handling time differences showed up when trying to track daily events.

For one senior student, inconsistent back-checking on worded problems resulted in missed marks even on familiar content, leaving her frustrated after reviewing corrections together.

Recent Achievements

One Keiraville tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to trigonometry: after initially relying heavily on prompts, he began clarifying confusions himself and consistently identified solution steps for trig questions without needing guidance.

In Year 8, another student who'd previously struggled with adding fractions was able to solve problems involving multiple fractions—something that had been a sticking point before—and moved on to confidently tackling BIDMAS questions after some revision.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once hesitated to break down maths problems started speaking her thought process out loud and now uses new problem-solving strategies on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Keiraville Public School.
