The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to make them stand on their own feet. A tutor should be able to make their mentee confident in learning, understanding, and applying their lessons on their own. It's also important for a tutor to establish a good rapport with the student and make them feel comfortable. I always…

I believe the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to thoroughly understand the student's struggles and to provide their services in a way that best suits the student so they are able to reap the most benefits out of the sessions. I believe my key strengths as a tutor would be that I have a casual and welcoming manner,…

Having a strong internal drive to learn and micro-teaching skills I think is the key role in tutoring. In my opinion, tutoring is not only teaching but also a part of learning experience that enables us to recall and applying the knowledge we have because it is a proof that we have understood what we have already learned. Micro-skill is the second…

Making learning exciting through individual attention and lack of judgement. Academics is often seen as a burden because it is not taught right. A tutor can change that by building a personal relationship with the child and breaking down the harder things to smaller, easily comprehensible chunks. I can break down complex topics into simpler…

being patient in the teaching process and letting the student progress step by step and also making the learning process attractive and enjoyable instead of showing it as a hard achievement. I want to add having a good manner in all situations is a must, too. I am a patient person with a lot of enthusiasm for helping others, especially children.…

The most important thing is for the tutor to facilitate the learning experience for the student, rather than telling the student what to do. Students shouldn't just learn the content but they should also learn how to understand and research future concepts on their own. I want my students to get a great understanding of the entire concept instead…

I think an english tutor has the ability to inspire and shape a student's career. They have the responsibility to guide and motivate the students to see value in their career. Listen to what they need, and what they are struggling with. Be patient if they don't understand something at first, and if they are still struggling with the concept after a while, trying teaching it to them in a different way so that they do understand. The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. A great tutor will adapt their learning styles and pedagogy to frame the student and enable them to learn in the best way possible. For example, you may have several students across the week, yet all of them are different. A great tutor makes an effort in…

For starters, a student needs to be comfortable around their tutor, so if they feel that they are not understanding something or for some reason feel odd they dare to let us know. Another thing is the tutor's capability to adapt to their students learning needs and styles. I believe that one of my greatest strengths as a tutor has to be my ability…

To be able to walk a fine balance between a formal educator and someone who understands and remembers what it was like to be in their position. As I teach, I try to understand the…

Inside Kelvin GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Angus focused on probability concepts, including two-way tables and Venn diagrams, with practice questions to build confidence ahead of his assessment.

In Year 9, Lina worked through trigonometry topics such as sine and cosine rules using example problems, and also tackled compound interest calculations involving both direct and reverse scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jessica covered advanced Specialist Mathematics skills by practising integration techniques—like u-substitution, integration by parts, and partial fractions—through step-by-step walkthroughs of homework and revision problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student arrived at a recent lesson without having completed her assigned Optimisation homework, saying she was too busy; as the tutor noted, "she is yet to do last week's homework…as well as other exercise questions." This pattern left gaps in understanding, especially when unfamiliar integration techniques appeared on exams.

In Year 10, another student struggled to start problem-solving tasks independently—without a hint, progress stalled and practice outside lessons remained limited.

For Year 7 algebra revision, one learner frequently confused positive and negative signs: "minor mistakes kept creeping in," slowing feedback and review.

Missed practice or incomplete preparation often meant time was spent re-covering basics instead of advancing new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Kelvin Grove tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitating to start integration problems, now jumps straight in independently and selects the right method on her own.

A Year 10 student has begun openly asking questions about mock test errors—something she avoided previously—so she can clarify tricky points before her upcoming exam.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to rush through worded maths questions now takes time to extract key details before solving, showing real care and accuracy by reading each question twice before answering.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kelvin Grove State College.
