The most important thing a tutor could do for a student is to understand how that student thinks and how they interpret ideas. Doing this is fundamental in allowing the student to interpret ideas more efficiently. I think my strengths as a tutor is my ability to explain ideas to different people and simplify complex ideas. Furthermore I can adjust…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is probably stay for a bit longer with the student to help with any questions that the student may ask. Taking some of time to also explain to the student even after the session has been completed. Another important thing is to build a friendly environment for the student, and become…

I believe one of the most crucial things a tutor can do for a student is to make the learning process both engaging and enjoyable. By creating an interactive and lively learning environment, students are more likely to develop a genuine interest in the subject matter. This interest is important for deep learning and long-term retention of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them perseverance and teach them in a manner that they are able to impart the knowledge further. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil genuine love for a particular subject. When a student really enjoys a subject they are more motivated to learn and excel in that subject. Also I think a tutor needs to be approachable and friendly so that the student can easily approach them whenever they face an academic…

The most important thing a tutor can do is foster a sense of understanding where a student is not just learning for the sake of it but can truly understand the implications of the subject matter and why certain things occur. This helps to develop critical thinking skills and an intrinsic motivation to learn that extends beyond memorisation and…

Andrews first tutoring session with Winston went very well. Andrew was very much engaged in his learning. Andrew said he really enjoyed it. Both Andrew and I look forward to proceeding with his lessons with Winston.

Inside Kemps CreekTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Enrique focused on probability and explored geometry concepts, including classifying shapes.

For Year 9 Vangie, lessons included rearranging algebraic equations to make a given variable the subject and converting between measurement units.

In Year 10, Amaan practised solving simultaneous equations by both substitution and elimination methods, and worked through coordinate geometry problems using past test questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, a student struggled to show working consistently in algebra questions; as the tutor observed, "he's good at doing these questions in his head and on a calculator, but working out is where he will get the marks he deserves." This meant correct answers were sometimes given without evidence for partial credit.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student often needed to refer back to examples rather than recall methods independently when tackling new variations of familiar problems.

In senior maths, another student hesitated to draw diagrams for worded problems, slowing progress and making errors more likely during complex geometry tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kemps Creek noticed some real shifts this term. One Year 11 student, who previously hesitated with differentiation, recently tackled composite functions and applied the product rule to differentiate more complex expressions without needing reminders.

In a Year 10 session, a student who used to rush through multiple choice questions began slowing down to identify and fix "silly mistakes," showing new attention to detail that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner surprised their tutor by recalling how to approach a money problem they hadn't practised in weeks and completed it independently from start to finish.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Valley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kemps Creek Public School.
