In my opinion, tutors have the responsability to ensure that the students have learned and correctly understood a topic. I always liked the metaphor building a car. A mechanic can tell you how to build it piece by piece but you can not replicate that process unless you have really understood it. In addition, tutors have an important role in…

I think the most important thing is to understand the student's needs and make them feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should not just provide answers, but help students develop their own problem-solving skills, confidence and understanding so they can work independently. My strengths are patience, clear communication and adaptability. I…

According to me the most important thing for the tutor is to understand that not all students understand concepts the same way and sense when students do not understand something and willingly try another approach of presenting the material to help the student. With this approach a tutor can make a difference in the student’s learning. I believe…

Understanding each individual student's limitations to tailor your content deliverance such that it is easily accessible. I believe the most important thing a tutor should do is to chiefly act as support for the student's anxieties or worries about a particular subject and any academic difficulties they may have and continue to support them so that they are able to achieve their full potential. I also believe that tutors should not only make sure students are…

Make the student fall in love with the subject. If this occurs, the student will be curious for the rest of his life, and the student will look for answers. The most important gift we can give the future generation is education. I'm a patient person. I'm aware of what I know and what I don't. If I don't know something, I make sure I understand it…

It is not about the result it is how you get there. Although I do believe a tutor should boost the student's grades in school, I also strongly believe that a tutor must teach in a way that a student understands and enjoys. I would make sure my student understands the concept while enjoying what he is doing. I want to ignite the passion I have in…

In my opinion, the most important thing is for the tutor to be supportive at every stage. Sometimes all a student needs is that push and confidence boost that helps them achieve their potential. I would like to be that pillar of strength thus helping them make a difference in their life. I am very patient and try to see the problem from the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to make sure they truly understand the material, feel comfortable asking questions, and stay engaged in the learning process. Making lessons interactive is really important because it helps students stay focused and involved instead of just listening. A tutor should explain…

Being a tutor means more than just achieving marks; it is about instilling lifelong habits which will benefit the student in high school, university and beyond. As all students are unique, I believe that a good tutor will always learn how to improve their weaknesses and build upon their strengths to achieve academic success. As a tutor, you must…

In my consideration, the most important thing is as a tutor I can do for a student is developing unique learning plans and strategies for him or her. There are many students in the school and the teachers cannot equally share their attention with each student. Also, everywhere is different and the uniform teaching strategies in school are not suit…

A tutor can be understanding and try to have enough knowledge to guide and answer all of the questions the student has. The tutor needs to create a welcoming environment so the students don't hesitate to ask questions, in fact they should be encouraged. I believe the most important things a tutor can do is also praising them for the tiniest improvements so that they can feel more motivated in studying. Tutors are not only limited to teaching students work, but they can also give…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Max practised addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers and explored algebra through interactive games, while also tackling a NAPLAN reading comprehension task.

Year 7 student Reuben worked on expanding brackets and simplifying algebraic expressions by grouping like terms, as well as reviewing more challenging homework problems.

For Year 8, Ella focused on solving equations with x-terms on both sides—including those resulting in fractional answers—and consolidated her understanding of index laws during the session.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often avoided writing out steps, choosing to solve equations mentally—"he was very fluent with the calculator," as a tutor observed, but over-reliance on it led to small errors and missed working in homework.

In Year 10 trigonometry, skipping units and failing to show sketches meant lost marks even when answers were correct.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner resisted tackling long division unless fully confident; this hesitation slowed progress in new maths topics.

In senior chemistry, back-checking sometimes turned into cosmetic correction rather than real error analysis, leaving calculation slips unresolved before tests.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington tutor recently noticed a big shift in Max's attitude toward reading—where he once dreaded reading aloud and froze up at mistakes, he now brings his own book to sessions and reads enthusiastically, even when he stumbles.

In high school maths, Reuben has started tackling challenging algebraic equations with less hesitation; after struggling with factorisation early on, he now solves GCF problems—even tricky ones—in a single lesson.

William also made a breakthrough in geometry by quickly recalling SOH CAH TOA rules for right-angled triangles and correctly identifying triangle sides without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Public School.
