Legal Studies Tutor Bundoora, VIC
A tutor's main goal should be to help the student develop the tools to go into the classroom and be confident about their skills, and hopefully, eventually, go on with their education, and ultimately their future, without a tutor. My greatest strength in tutoring is that I know that there are multiple ways to look at the same information, and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is improve the confidence of a student so that they feel competent and ready, which is a knock on effect from the clarity gained during tutoring sessions. Another important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them gain good study habits with can take them all throughut their education, and…

I also think it is important for a tutor to be personable and a confident communicator in order to make the students feel comfortable working with them. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to use personalised strategies that suit the student's learning style so that they can benefit from their one-on-one lessons in a way that they don't have the opportunity to in the classroom. I also believe it is important for a tutor to understand both the strengths and…

A tutor should be able to lift the confidence of a student; with the ability to detect their strengths, as well as listing potential weaknesses so that there is a level of realism when analysing one's raw ability in a subject. I have the ability to break concepts into small parts to increase the level of understanding for a student. Paired with my…

Beyond teaching the student the core concepts behind a subject, I believe that the tutor can teach valuable study methods and techniques for exam preparation to help them achieve a better mark to reflect to their knowledge and understanding. Georgie is really enjoying coaching with Gabrielle. She's already doing so much better in maths at school (her teacher has commented on the huge improvement at recent parent teacher conference!). Gabrielle is a real asset to your team. She's so polite, punctual, intelligent and just fantastic.

Inside KingsburyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jessie worked on long division with both one- and two-digit divisors, then moved into simplifying and converting improper fractions as well as solving basic algebraic equations.

Year 8 student Amy focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions, including the use of negative numbers, while also practicing distance formula calculations between two points without a calculator.

For Year 9, Ethan tackled trigonometry concepts such as Pythagoras' theorem and introductory trig ratios, supported by diagram-based problem-solving.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student relied heavily on calculators for basic multiplication ("tended to want to use the calculator for simpler multiplication problems such as 7x8 or 87x100"), which slowed progress in algebra and mental arithmetic.

A Year 11 student in Economics struggled to explain answers using key terms, leading to weaker responses on longer written tasks.

For a Year 5 learner, messy working made it difficult to track steps when dividing fractions, so mistakes went unnoticed until the end.

In VCE Chemistry, another needed reminders about organizing materials and remembering anion/cation rules before tests—forgetting led to confusion during practice questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kingsbury noticed a Year 9 student who used to rush through maths in her head now actively uses rough working and worked examples, helping her spot mistakes before they become habits.

In a recent high school biology session, one student started the lesson unsure but finished by completing textbook questions independently after clarifying the key concepts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant about multiplication began writing out her steps instead of guessing, which let her quickly find where she went wrong—she even asked for more challenging problems once she got the hang of it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Reservoir Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Way School.
