To break a complex subject/topic and explain it as simple as possible so that the student absorbs the very same content that the subject is trying to convey. - I am patient enough to teach a student no matter how many times I would have to explain the same topic because I myself have been impatiently asking my teachers about the doubts. - To grab…

I personally think being present and always being eager to get through sessions no matter the difficulty since there is always an easier way to get by problems. Being patient with students is essential since students' learning methods vary. Also pushing them to strive for development and always looking to make the session enjoyable throughout! I…

The most important thing is to understand each student as a person so that you can personalise their learning and teach to their strengths. This comes with communicating and listening to what that student has to say to you. I like to ask students questions about their background with the subject, or related subjects and what they're hoping to…

I believe that every individual learns things in different ways. In a classroom, each teacher will have their own way of presenting and teaching the content, and this method is most likely to be consistent throughout the year. Whilst this may cater for some students, and help them excel in the particular subject, it might not be suitable for other…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them and to listen to them. A tutors job is to guid a student in the right redirection. A tutor can tailor the their teaching to the students needs so they are both working together. The tutor must be an excellent listener to understand how the student thinks and what they need…

Being respectful is one of the best ways to connect with a student, and allows students room to speak up about any issues they are having. I think that a tutor can be successful if he can improve the base of a subject for the children and instead of just making them learn concepts, if the tutor can make it understandable and interesting that should be the most important thing. I have good knowledge about both the subjects so tutoring for them would not be very difficult and also I…

It is very important for me as tutor to ensure that a student do not feel demotivated. This begins with creating a safe learning environment and ensuring that they will not feel pressured for making mistakes, as mistakes are part of the learning process. When a student struggles with a problem, it is important to be patient and commit to ensuring…

In my opinion, the top roles of a tutor are to establish a meaningful relationship and maintain an atmosphere where students feel welcome to ask questions and make mistakes without being judged. good tutor is supposed to create an atmosphere boosting the student's self-confidence while encouraging them to think critically and to resolve problems.…

The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. If they don't believe they can do it or that what they're learning is actually beneficial, they're only ever going to treat it as something they have to do. It'll be difficult for them to reach their potential in the subject. My strengths would be ability to…

The most important things I can do for a student is teaching them how to learn and study more efficiently as those are more important than helping them to solve specific questions. Be approachable and pay attention. It's very hard to put your own worldview aside when it comes to knowledge, and many people are likely not even cognisant of that, but you need to understand that you know things that the child doesn't even know what they don't know. I make learning a bit more laid back and approachable. My strength is in relating…

Inside KurabyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7, Ella focused on decimal addition and subtraction as well as practicing both 2 x 2 digit and 3 x 2 digit multiplication; meanwhile, Year 8, Marcus worked through order of operations in word problems and solved volume questions involving measurement conversions.

In senior Biology, Year 11 student Lily reviewed karyotype interpretation and discussed the roles of different RNAs in protein synthesis alongside constructing energy flow diagrams for ecosystems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's maths work showed a tendency to skip setting out full working for complex equations, making it difficult to catch errors—"his thinking for these questions was correct, but layout needs work."

In Year 11 Biology, another student did not spend enough time reading studies in detail before analysis, which slowed progress on the research investigation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner often guessed answers rather than using drawings or calculations when tackling multiplication and word problems.

In each case, rushed or incomplete processes led to confusion or repeated mistakes during practice and revision.

Recent Achievements

A Kuraby tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid exam-style biology questions now confidently summarising the process of nondisjunction in her own words when prompted, showing real ownership of complex genetics content.

In Year 8 maths, another student who previously struggled with setting out calculations is now consistently writing complete expressions for worded problems and double-checking unit conversions independently.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who would guess times tables answers has begun using anchor facts and visual patterns to solve unfamiliar multiplication questions, choosing strategies herself without prompting from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan North Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kuraby State School.
