As we all know, learning should not be restricted to getting good marks in any institution or to memorising lists of facts. The most important things that can be given are the motivation and ability to keep finding things out for oneself (and to fact check new information without relying on AI or internet rumour). Seeing and approaching topics…

Ensuring that the student not only comprehends the content but that they can come to enjoy the subject matter as well. I am good at breaking things down to their simplest components. I believe that subjects like Maths and Physics are easiest understood when a good foundation supports one's higher level…

Students who are performing poorly in school need help to know the best learning style that is effective for them. As a tutor, exploring learning styles with the student is vital. Once students understand their learning style, they can progress…

Inside LenaghanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lucas focused on negative numbers and order of operations, working through problems involving LCM and HCF.

In Year 10, Sarah tackled straight-line equations, including advanced gradient questions and forming linear equations using m and c.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily worked on non-right angled trigonometry with bearings and solved challenging exam-style questions from past papers.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to maintain focus during lessons, particularly when faced with long worded problems or multi-step arithmetic; as one tutor noted, "she lost motivation reading extended questions and often missed key details."

In Year 10 algebra sessions, she sometimes skipped showing full working—this made it hard to spot where sign errors crept in and left her less confident tackling "ugly" numbers.

Meanwhile, a senior chemistry student forgot reaction equations learned earlier in the term, so revisiting basics became necessary before moving on. These lapses led to extra time spent relearning old material instead of advancing further.

Recent Achievements

A Lenaghan tutor recently saw a Year 10 student move from needing step-by-step guidance in algebra to solving four equations independently and accurately, after weeks of hesitance with variables.

Another high schooler, Molly, who used to wait for hints, now tackles advanced straight-line equation problems on her own and even recalled methods from two sessions prior without prompting.

In a primary session, Gemma—who previously mixed up multiplication facts—now remembers most times tables by heart and works through long division with minimal support.

Last week, Molly solved two challenging exam-style questions solo.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Beresfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Black Hill Public School.
