The most important things that a tutor must do for students is to always demonstrate patience and love towards them. It might take time for them to understand the lesson so you have to bear with them. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower them to become independent learners. This involves building confidence by providing encouragement and celebrating successes, fostering a belief in the student's potential. Help them gain interest in what they're trying to study/learn. The problem with kids not wanting to learn isn't because the subject is hard, usually it's because they have no interest in the subject whatsoever. There's always a way to show someone the appeal of every single subject. It can be hard but it's very possible and many teachers and…

Inside LlandiloTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Alysha worked through division skills to support her understanding of gradient calculations (rise over run) and touched on pre-algebra concepts using class worksheets.

In Year 8, Isaac practiced applying BODMAS rules to complex expressions and tackled long division, also revising multiples and factors in the context of his homework.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Luca focused on converting between decimals and fractions as well as comparing different fractions, building accuracy with targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 mathematics, a student relied heavily on drawing groups for basic multiplication and division ("we had to draw the groups and lines for 8 x 5, then count them"), highlighting gaps in times table recall.

In Year 7 English, forgetting to revise notes between sessions led to weaker retention of grammar concepts like nouns and adverbs.

By Year 10, one student's writing showed avoidable punctuation errors that only disappeared after direct feedback—proof that self-checking isn't yet automatic.

A senior student in Year 12 mathematics was unable to explain steps involving algebraic laws without prompts, leaving negative signs unaddressed and undermining accuracy under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Llandilo tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who previously rushed through assessment tasks but this time edited their work independently before submitting it, taking extra care to check for errors.

Another high school student who often hesitated to ask questions began raising points of confusion mid-lesson, leading her to solve division problems more accurately and complete her homework without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to fidget during lessons started using self-chosen break strategies, allowing him to stay focused and finish his reading tasks in one sitting for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Marys Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Llandilo Public School.
