I feel a good tutor would be there for the student at all times whether its regarding the subject or any other hardships they may be facing as a student. I wish to provide all my support for the growth of the student. Moreover, we as tutors should help the students gain more knowledge about the subject in a way they learn to love the subject as…

some of the most important things in a tutor is patience, understanding, and communication. without these three main skills tutoring would not work, and information would be lost in translation or children would feel too pressured to retain and information. In my honest opinion, offering to help with their academic performances is not the most important things but it is to be there for my student. To be a supportive person who respect their personality, their actions, their way of life. I might not be the smartest tutor who can help them solve every homework but I will be there for them to listen, to…

Although my goal is to see them be at the top of their class, it is more important to see improvements in their tutor lessons and use the knowledge I give them at school to refine their skills I am very easy going and I have a lot of patience. So I am good with kids that are struggling to understand. I use the 4 predominant learning styles:…

I strongly believe that the role of a tutor, more than anything else, is to inspire a student to believe that they are capable of achieving whatever they put their mind to. Being patient while they're learning is vital in ensuring that they remain patient with themselves especially through times they are struggling with understanding something.…

Develop a passion for a type of learning that potentially does not come naturally to them, or that they have not experienced totally before. When you’re passionate about something that transfers into drive for hard work and that in turn helps you reap the rewards of what you’ve sown. Often the thing that’s blocking us from seeing how cool…

As it is said, "Teacher is the second parent of the child", I believe apart from the bookish knowledge, a teacher also mentors and guides a student in life skills. A tutor can change the way a child perceives the environment in an optimistic manner. I have great communication skills and ability to build a rapport with the student. I'm a fun…

Inside MangertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Isla focused on simplifying fractions and using the correct order of operations, also practicing how to convert numbers to percentages.

For Year 11, Noah worked through statistics concepts including calculating mean and standard deviation, applying these to his homework tasks.

In Year 12, Natalia reviewed function topics by defining domain and range and practiced transformation questions from her Math syllabus for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student preparing for an upcoming exam repeatedly reviewed solved questions but avoided practicing them independently; as a tutor noted, "he needs to review the solutions and practice to make progress."

Meanwhile, in Year 11 Mathematics, another student showed hesitancy tackling new problems without guidance, preferring familiar examples instead of attempting similar questions alone—this limited deeper understanding before assessments.

In a primary context (Year 4), one learner struggled to recall multiplication strategies unless she practiced immediately after sessions, leading to gaps by the following week. Missed opportunities for solo revision or delayed follow-up meant uncertainty lingered during quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Mangerton tutor noticed a real shift with Natalia in Year 10: after previously getting stuck on algebra, she now tackles problems independently and sticks with them until solved.

In a recent high school session, Zane arrived having worked through Chapter 2 by himself—he brought specific questions to discuss, showing new initiative instead of waiting passively for help.

Meanwhile, during a primary-level lesson, Noah was able to complete the "Test Yourself" section with just some guidance, rather than needing step-by-step prompting.

At the end of his session, Zane asked every question he'd prepared and understood each answer fully.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Illawarra Grammar School.
