A tutor should treat every students equally. Motivate slow learners and help them improve their learning. Patience is very important and never get angry repeating the same response for those who have trouble grasping the concept. Ready to lend ears to their queries. Make learning easier so that they can enjoy learning. I have always noticed myself…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for their students is to help them achieve the result they want whilst not being restricted to long and tedious hours of studying, maintaining a study life balance. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to offer them quality information and direct feedback on their work and areas of struggle. Additionally, a tutor should be humble such that they do not impose their own ideas onto a student, but rather walk alongside the student's journey of learning. This helps to establish a strong…

To be able to enable to student to think, and answer hard questions when all else has failed. A tutor shouldn't teach a student but rather guide them to asking the right questions and figuring out the right paths to take in order to get the information that they need. I think a tutor can give a student confidence, that a student doesn't need to be intimidated by a STEM class. The general attitude that these subject are 'too hard' or that a student 'will never use these skills again' sets up bright students for failure before they even set foot in a classroom. The most important thing a tutor can do is boost a…

According to me, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is wake up their curiosity. Getting good grades are important, but equally important is to make sure that the student is enjoying and understanding the subject being taught. As this helps make the student pursue the subjects further. These are the future of the humanity,…

I consider active listening and clear communication to be one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Without these two skills, any amount of tutoring will be ineffective. I think it would be acknowledging the difficulty in subjects to know that they aren't alone with their difficulties and also being able to explain to them the content of their subjects in new ways that makes sense to them. First and foremost I think that is having patience. People do not all learn in the same way and as I mentioned before, when teaching somebody, half the job is just figuring out the best way to frame it, something which requires patience and perseverance. What is also important as a tutor is not just telling students what they need to know, but…

Inside MoorookaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie worked on adding and subtracting fractions, as well as rounding decimals using practical examples.

In Year 8, Lily focused on algebraic equations and interpreting number planes, practicing with diagrams to build understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jacob revised compound interest problems through recurrence relations and applied them to real-life loan scenarios for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often struggled to stay focused during lessons, particularly at the start; as one tutor noted, "he had a very difficult time focussing during this session," which meant he needed more guidance and repeated explanations in basic fractions and decimals work.

In contrast, a senior student (Year 11) left working out incomplete when tackling square roots and complex equations—sometimes forgetting materials or skipping steps—so errors weren't easily spotted.

When it came to applying concepts from examples to exercises in higher-level maths, confidence faltered and progress slowed, especially if previous methods hadn't been retained.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moorooka noticed that one Year 9 student, who used to get stuck on fraction problems, now multiplies and divides fractions with only a quick prompt, even tackling decimal questions independently.

In Year 11 maths, another student has gone from hesitating on algebra to attempting exam-style questions solo—he recently completed a full module of problem-solving tasks without needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised their tutor by recalling previously tricky map skills from memory and confidently locating places during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moorooka State School.
