Personally I believe it is very important to communicate the material to different types of students, everybody learns different and adapting to this is very important. Communication is key and you have to be clear when teaching content. I also believe it is important to create a safe space for students to be able to ask for help and feedback. As…

One of the most important things in tutoring is to understand the way the student thinks, and the ways they learn most efficiently, through which the way of teaching can then by oriented or altered to suit the learner to learn most effectively. I can explain complex ideas in the most simple ways for students to understand, I always also create…

I provide detailed feedback which i believe is one of the most important things for someone to truly improve. How are you meant to improve if you dont know what things you need to work on. Its also important to relay the feedback patiently and not to discourage the other person. I am patient, I brainstorm different ideas to teach a concept to…

Inside Nar Nar GoonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mehar focused on converting between fractions and decimals using place value knowledge, and practiced adding, subtracting, and representing proper fractions on a number line.

In Year 11, Gavin worked through solving linear equations and quadratic functions as well as exploring domains and ranges of functions from his Maths Methods course.

Meanwhile, Alexander in Year 12 prepared for his physics exam by revising kinematics concepts such as constant acceleration motion, forces on inclined planes, pulleys, and energy transfer during collisions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was not organized with school notes and missed homework, leading to confusion when revising area and perimeter formulas—"he did not have his own notes written down but followed teacher notes," which left gaps in understanding.

In senior maths, one student's lack of confidence with matrix multiplication and transformations meant that errors weren't spotted or corrected mid-task, especially during Zoom disruptions.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 struggled to connect formulas to real situations: "he used the wrong numbers in equations even though he knew what each term meant." Each scenario resulted in time lost searching for meaning instead of building mastery.

Recent Achievements

One Nar Nar Goon tutor recently saw Gavin, a Year 12 student, move from hesitation to fluency with quadratic inequalities—he now confidently uses the discriminant to determine solution numbers and can expand polynomials without prompting.

Meanwhile, Alex (Year 11) demonstrated real independence in physics by recalling when to apply key kinematics and energy equations during exam prep, rather than relying on hints.

At primary level, Mehar has shifted from guessing to actively explaining where decimals belong in fraction conversions; last session she worked through converting between decimals and fractions step-by-step, explaining each place value aloud as she went.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pakenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nar Nar Goon Primary School.
