I think it would be confidence. If a student is confident in their own ability, then they can achieve their goals and do well in academics. They would also be able be motivated to do homework and tests, as they know they are smart and intelligent enough to sit these exams My strengths would be my bluntness, hard-working attitude and confidence in…

I believe that being patient towards a student, while encouraging the student to be highly committed and willing to learn is very important for being a tutor. I also think that when tutoring, given the limited time available to teach each student, should also have a focus on helping the student learn methods and fully understand the topic to be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only teach them, but allow them to be independent and learn. My strengths as a tutor includes that: I am patient, I find different methods to teach, and I try to understand them and teach them in a way how I understood…

The most fundamental thing is to teach them about the subject itself. More importantly, is the influence of your value and behaviour on students. Your compassion and dedication can motivate students to fulfill their potential and achieve more than they've expected. First of all, I'm really talented at maths. I can help students to understand…

The most important things a tutor can do are to provide a safe and supportive learning environment, tailor their approach to the student’s needs, and empower them to believe in their abilities. A tutor should not only teach concepts but also help students build skills like critical thinking, time management, and problem-solving that they can…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is clarifying and reviewing a piece of information they are trying to learn and understand, while instilling a useful learning strategy. Also increasing the level of knowledge so their confidence level increases and hence allowing them to improve at school. Patience would be a strength…

Maintaining open communication with the student so gaps in their knowledge can be identified and closed so their understanding of the subject matter is clear. This is because in the HSC multiple syllabus dot points are often combined to form long responses, the lack of understanding in one area can result in the significant loss of marks.…

The most important thing is to be genuine. To have the heart and the passion to explain our hobbies and our knowledge to our future generation. Without genuinity, everything else would not matter. I like to think outside the box. I think creating interesting yet simple scenarios for tutoring would enable students to be alert yet understanding.…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

Inside NarweeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Raeed practised using number lines to solve addition and subtraction problems, and compared the size of numbers up to the thousands using greater than and less than symbols.

In Year 8, Lachlan worked on applying Pythagoras' theorem to both straightforward and worded questions, as well as consolidating his understanding of linear equations by graphing on Cartesian planes and identifying slopes.

For Year 9, John focused on trigonometric functions—learning SOHCAHTOA to find unknown sides in right-angled triangles—and reviewed indices laws ahead of an upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student, when working through algebra problems, often solved steps mentally rather than writing them out—this led to sign errors that went unnoticed until the answer was checked ("he could improve by writing down his 'working-out' instead of solving the problems mentally").

In Year 5 maths, a student tackling multiplication and division patterns hesitated to use written methods, preferring mental calculations; this slowed progress and caused confusion with more complex sequences.

A senior student's English analysis responses lacked depth because they did not fully incorporate weekly vocabulary or address multiple perspectives, limiting the detail in their essays.

Recent Achievements

One Narwee tutoring session saw a high school student, Lachlan, begin to ask more questions and actively seek clarification when he was unsure—where previously he tended to stay quiet if he got stuck.

Another notable win: John, also in high school, managed to self-identify errors in his own written work using the markscheme and could explain how to improve for next time, which is a real shift from needing constant external feedback.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Raeed showed new independence by carrying out column addition with large numbers correctly after struggling with carrying the one just a few weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penshurst Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Narwee Public School.
