Making a student feel comfortable and confident about the subject they need help in is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Therefore, the student is likely to excel in that subject because of the positive impact the tutor has left on the student. I'm organised, which means I'll have a plan for each tutoring session based on the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is break the subject down as much as possible and really ensure that they understand in their own way before moving on to the next thing. I am very patient and able to explain a concept in several different ways. I also am very knowledgeable and have my own study tools I can apply with…

Effective guidance in studies is crucial, tailoring teaching methods to individual learning styles and addressing specific challenges. However, equally vital is the cultivation of a…

The most important thing is to build a relationship where there is communication, if a student finds it hard to express what their feeling with regard to their difficulties then it's my job as a tutor to make them comfortable so they can express themselves, I can't help if I don't know what's wrong, but I should create an environment in which…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to find out the student's learning method and try to adapt to that. Everyone learns differently and tutoring should be focused on helping the student in the best possible way that they can receive. I can easily adapt to new situations and environments which will help since every…

A tutor should be able to teach a student how to learn. They shouldn't just coach students on what they are studying but also how they are studying - whether their mode of study is effective and efficient enough. So that in the end, the student is able to tackle any subject or obstacle they run into without a tutor. Being friendly and…

To be able to build a personal relationship with the student where the student is comfortable to ask questions as to what they don't understand, and be able to answer them clearly and patiently. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can pass onto a student is confidence in that learning area, as confidence can act as a motivator for improvement. Whilst helping a pupil to overcome their challenges is definitely required, I think that providing students with the tools to overcome similar, future problems is far more effective, as…

I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to always be there for them when they have questions to ask. This is because with our presence, and once we manage to build a relationship with them, they would not feel that it is embarrassing to ask certain questions, even if they have a wrong answer in mind. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to develop an organic interest in the subject, where a student, of his own accord, picks up the topic and explores it. Larger goal remains that of the student being able to maximize their potential and develop confidence and self-belief. If a tutor can spark an interest where the…

Not all students learn the same or at the speed so it's important to be patient in teaching at all times. To be honest private tutoring is excess work for students. Students are already fed up with school work and then coming back home for further math is not a enjoyment for a typical student (I was the same in my childhoodðŸ˜). So the tutor must be able to make the subject more enjoyable and less stressful. So that the student won't find it hectic…

A tutor should be able to allow the student to understand the concept with a good amount of familiarity. This involves repetition and testing of students' understanding using different methods. When concepts are difficult, a tutor should be able to simplify the concept such that all students understand it with clarity. I am very patient and quick…

Inside NedlandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sofia worked on identifying and using nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives in English, alongside practicing multiplication tables for 4, 6, 7, 8, and 12.

In Year 8, Chloe focused on understanding isomorphic graphs and adjacency matrices in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled Pythagoras' Theorem by finding hypotenuse lengths as well as working through problems requiring calculation of unknown side lengths given the hypotenuse.

Recent Challenges

In recent lessons, a Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework and sometimes brought only answers rather than full working, which made it hard to pinpoint where understanding was lost.

A tutor noted, "He relied on mental maths for division instead of writing steps," leading to repeated errors in basic calculations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, messy written work during standard deviation questions meant time was wasted hunting for calculation slips instead of focusing on new concepts.

Another senior student skipped practicing harder problems and depended heavily on calculators before attempting questions by hand, especially under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nedlands noticed that a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on worded trigonometry questions is now breaking down each part independently and double-checking his steps, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

Another recent high school session saw Chloe challenge herself by working through matrices unaided for the first time, showing she's comfortable relying on her own skills.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with tricky multiplication now openly checks his thinking out loud and requests clarification whenever he's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
