The most important thing to do for students is to listen and know how they learn. Knowing their capabilities is needed in order to challenge them while making sure they are engaged and interested in what is being taught or reviewed. I have previous experience tutoring 1on1 and in small groups. Currently I am studying a Bachelor of Education…

I think it's important to listen and observe, find out how a student learns, how they go about working on a problem, then use these observations to construct a way to better their understanding of the material. I'm an easy going guy, I try not to stress people out. I am able to understand and simplify Mathematics in a way that's easier to…

Brianna is lovely. She is working with our daughter, running through the basics to help build her confidence, and is adapting her lessons to match what's being taught at school. She is personable, friendly, on time and really helping our daughter.

Inside North LambtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Chloe worked through NAPLAN-style maths questions and used Mathletics on the iPad to strengthen division and multiplication skills.

Year 8 student Jackson focused on algebraic techniques, especially solving two-step equations, as well as factorization and simplifying algebraic expressions.

In Year 11, Erika reviewed dividend yield calculations in maths before tackling biology topics like autosomal and sex-linked inheritance, drawing Punnett squares and pedigrees for different genetic scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student's notes revealed that limited study outside lessons—around one hour per week—and undated notes made it hard to track progress and address gaps, especially in Financial Maths and Bivariate Data.

"He explained he hadn't finished the homework because he felt unsure about Year 11 content," a tutor observed after reviewing incomplete tasks.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly forgot to do assigned homework and struggled with place value, missing chances to reinforce learning at home.

In another senior example, time management issues during multiple choice questions meant less time for extended problems in exams, leaving some sections unfinished.

Recent Achievements

One North Lambton tutor noticed a real shift in Jackson's approach to challenging maths content: where he used to rely heavily on formula sheets, he now draws diagrams and talks through his reasoning out loud before attempting questions independently—especially in non-linear equations and trigonometry.

Erika, working toward her senior biology assessment, has started asking more probing questions about genetic mutations; she can now confidently explain the difference between somatic and germline mutations and apply this to new scenarios.

Meanwhile, Chloe recently completed all of her science assessment tasks by herself for the first time, including redrawing graphs without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lambton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St John's Primary School.
