Parents of my students frequently tell me that their kids feel safe and loved in my classroom. As someone who grew up in a family that struggled financially, I am constantly looking out for signs that a youngster may be hungry, exhausted, or in need. One sixth-grade student immediately stood out to me when I first started teaching because he was…

According to me two most important principles in a tutor are patience and trust. Building trust makes the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes. Having patience also goes a long way in building that trust, so that the student can actually enjoy the learning process. I believe I can bring value to the role through my…

Making sure that the student fully understands what was taught is the most important above all. A tutor should not just present a lesson and slip away. He should be more interactive, address the questions of the student, and give his best effort to repeat the parts not understood by the student in other simpler smart approaches. A tutor should…

A successful teacher never lets a student feel like they cannot achieve their goals. The goal can be anything from solving a problem to passing the course or even their career goals. Inside NorthmeadTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Lily focused on simplifying fractions and explored equivalent fractions using visual models.

For Year 9, Ethan practised solving quadratic equations by both factorising and completing the square, with extra attention to finding turning points on graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sarah worked through trigonometric functions—drawing their graphs and analysing amplitude and phase shifts—alongside applying radians and unit circle concepts to real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student relied on Desmos for graphing but hesitated to input values or interpret function outputs independently; "more experience with Desmos" was suggested, as he often skipped visual aids and lost confidence when tackling abstract equations.

In a Year 6 maths session, messy working out—especially in multi-digit subtraction—made it hard to spot copying errors or double-check answers, as noted: "she finished her quiz very fast but didn't double check her answers properly and ended up with multiple wrong answers."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student forgot to complete both sides of assigned homework pages and sometimes arrived without essential materials, leading to incomplete practice and less productive lessons.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Northmead noticed that a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to tackle indices problems is now solving complex questions independently and even tries new strategies without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student has started redoing homework questions she got wrong the first time—something she avoided before—and now checks her answers carefully for mistakes.

In a recent primary session, one student used out-loud thinking to break down tricky addition problems, openly catching and correcting errors on her own, which marks a big shift from staying quiet when unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wentworthville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School.
