The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them become more independent and confident with the subject material. If a tutor can encourage students when they are finding the problems difficult and explain the material to them so they can consolidate and establish the skills so they could teach it to others, then I think the…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

The most important thing is ensuring you build confidence in a students understanding of the subject as a whole as it is through this that a student would be able to face any questions that may be posed to them and have confidence within themselves that they are able to understand the topics given throughout their learning. Inside Notting HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aanya practised telling time using both analog and digital clocks, and worked on identifying symmetrical shapes through hands-on drawing tasks.

Year 10 student Kevin focused on balancing redox equations as well as exploring the differences between galvanic and electrolytic cells using past exam questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah completed detailed organic chemistry revision, tackling reaction pathways and structural isomers of homologous series with real VCAA-style problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, answers often lacked clear layout and consistent use of units, especially in calculation and equilibrium questions; as one tutor noted, "units need to be shown correctly at all stages of answer." This led to confusion when interpreting formulae or balancing redox equations.

In Year 9 Mathematics, working was sometimes scattered on the page or missing key steps in long division and fraction conversions, making it difficult to check reasoning.

A Year 4 student's homework revealed distraction during lessons, with unfinished word problems and skipped working for time-telling tasks—leaving her unsure how she arrived at each answer.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Notting Hill noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through calculation questions now takes a methodical approach, laying out each step clearly and using the correct SI units without reminders.

A Year 8 student, who used to get distracted during lessons, showed much better concentration last week—she was able to work through problems mentally and completed all set tasks without losing focus.

In a recent primary session, a Year 4 student confidently solved fraction addition and multiplication questions independently after struggling with mixed fractions earlier in the term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pinewood Primary School.
