I think being able to communicate effectively is very important for a tutor.He/she should be able to put himself in the student's shoes. And accordingly elucidate concepts. Every student has his own strengths and weakness in a subject. The tutor should be able to identify these. Apart from this, a tutor should have very strong basics.Only if…

I think that the most important part of being a tutor is not only teaching a student on how to excel at the particular subject, but teach them to develop certain study habits and techniques that they will then be able to utilize and apply to different subjects as well. Therefore building a foundation of study skills which they can then apply…

To rest the student's mind, make something that they used to struggle with understandable. Make sure they get less but not more pressure by attending more tutoring outside of class. I believe that a tutor should be prepared for the session and knows the students needs. Because students abilities are different, so the tutor should know his students very well. Clarifying the problem and then develop the critical thinking ability in the students. Moreover, the progress of students should be monitored carefully. I am a very…

Listening to the student is very important. You need to know when they are getting frustrated and exactly what is confusing them. Sometimes they figure out a different method for solving a problem and if you don't fully understand what they are saying you may not realise they are on the correct track. I think I am good at breaking complicated…

Acadameia aside, I strongly believe that motivation and encouragement are the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Being motivated and hardworking are definitely my strengths and my weakness would be being meticulous in all my work, which acts as a double edged sword, finding small pedantic issues and making sure that all of it is…

As I said in the previous questions, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is instilling the importance of Math and Science to everyday lives. The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. I engage with them one on one and ensure that there is truly no question 'too stupid' that they cannot ask me for help with. I find over time how the student personally learns and work with their own…

-Investigate a student's weakness and focus on overcoming that weakness. -A tutor should have an individual plan for each student depending on a student's specific need. -A tutor should aim to develop the skills of a student with time. Inside Osborne ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Jade worked through a full yearly maths exam to identify strengths and areas for growth, then focused on solving simultaneous equations and piecewise linear equations by reviewing questions together.

Year 10 student Ben tackled trigonometry concepts such as using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides or angles, and applied these skills to worded problems involving angles of elevation and depression.

For Year 8 maths, Ella revised Pythagoras' theorem for both straightforward calculations and real-life applications, as well as basic trigonometric ratios—practicing with diagrams to boost understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student did not bring their maths book, so time was lost organizing materials before starting on syllabus-based work.

Another Year 11 student received a test back and admitted, "I tried finishing the test as fast as I could," which led to stress-driven errors and missed marks in geometry proofs.

A Year 2 student needed guidance recalling addition facts; when tired, she would slowly count from one instead of using number sense—making even simple sums feel draining.

In Year 6 algebra homework, no written working was shown for a linear equation task, leaving misunderstandings hidden until review.

Recent Achievements

One Osborne Park tutor noticed that a Year 9 student, Ben, has started to check his work aloud and use backchecking strategies—he used to rush through problems, but now he catches more of his own errors before moving on.

In a senior maths session, a Year 11 student worked through normal distribution questions independently for the first time, confidently answering both textbook and past test examples after previously needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who once relied heavily on help for column addition now completes these sums up to three digits with only a quick reminder at the start.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Osborne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Osborne Primary School.
