Probably to make sure they understand the underlying material rather than just giving the answers. Helping them through problems, and actually encouraging and motivating them along without just revealing the answers will help develop their problem solving skills, making the next problems easier to overcome. I adapt to specific student's different…

Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Tutoring can also help reinforce content that students learnt that day or week. I am a…

Helping a student's fundamental understanding allows them to answer tricky curveball questions as well as the usual exercises. My main strength would be explaining fundamentals. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is guide them. What i mean by guiding them is correcting simple mistakes so that they would learn from them and remember not to make the same mistake again. I found that by making a mistake it was a lot easier to remember the correct method after being helped by my teacher. Simlarly promoting…

Preparation by the tutor is a must requirement before every lesson. In 1 on 1 tutoring a students needs will change weekly or monthly and its the tutors job to cater to these needs. In private tutoring catering for a students needs is vital which means communication between the tutor, the student and the parent. The tutor should also have…

I think it would be confidence. If a student is confident in their own ability, then they can achieve their goals and do well in academics. They would also be able be motivated to do homework and tests, as they know they are smart and intelligent enough to sit these exams My strengths would be my bluntness, hard-working attitude and confidence in…

As stated above it is important for a tutor to be patient and understanding of others. This would allow for a tutor to be adaptive in their teaching, altering the method of teaching content in order to assist a student's understanding. To ensure that the teaching method satisfies how the student learn, and their personalities. I strongly believe the most basic yet crucial thing a tutor can do for their students is being accessible and flexible to the unique needs of the student. Students often break down because they feel everything that is happening to them is unique to them. In reality this is not true, thus as a tutor I believe the most important thing is to be supportive to the student, but also being able to provide responses which are tailored to the understanding/way of learning of the student. My understanding of…

The most important thing a tutor can and SHOULD absolutely do for students is to find out what truly lies behind the student’s weaknesses. Whether that could be weak foundational knowledge or not enough practice, to things like not fully understanding what the question is asking for or the topic they are learning. This way consequent to…

Competence in mathematics comes down to practice and I believe that a tutor has to constantly encourage the student to practice and develop this skill. A tutor has to teach the content to the student in an efficient manner so that the student can also gain an interest in maths. A tutor has to be very approachable and has to have good communication…

Local Reviews

We are extremely happy with the services provided by EzyMath Tutoring. Our 14 year old daughter's marks have improved significantly since her tutoring commenced earlier this year. Our daughter looks looks forward to her sessions with her outstanding tutor, Nikki, who is also a good role model for our daughter. We highly recommend the services of EzyMath Tutoring.

Inside Oyster BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Grace focused on finding unknown values in equations and translating word problems into number sentences, along with revision of percentages and algebra.

Year 7 student Olivia reviewed her recent maths exam and practiced more advanced algebra problems to prepare for the next year, including work with variables and expressions.

For Year 10, Tia completed targeted revision on quadratic equations and surds, as well as exploring similarity using diagrams to visualise geometric relationships.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student hesitated to write out full working for financial maths, instead relying on mental calculations—this caused confusion when multi-step questions appeared. "She generally knows what she is meant to do but struggles when adding multiple steps together," noted her tutor.

In a Year 7 algebra session, another avoided showing intermediate steps in expansions and rearrangements, which led to sign errors that were hard to trace later.

Meanwhile, during Year 3 measurement revision, incomplete homework meant the student had less exposure to tricky unit conversions, leaving her unprepared for new word problems that week.

Recent Achievements

One Oyster Bay tutoring session saw a Year 9 student, Sophie, shift from hesitating with algebra to confidently expanding brackets and tackling both simple and compound interest problems without prompting.

In another lesson, Abbey (Year 8) moved past confusion around percentages—she now multiplies by fractions independently to find percentage values and applies this in financial maths scenarios.

Meanwhile, a younger student, Violet (Year 4), who previously struggled with basic arithmetic, started solving multiplication and division questions unaided for the first time—choosing her own strategies when faced with worded maths problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sylvania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oyster Bay Public School.
