What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. One that motivates students to learn and to be able to confidently apply the knowledge they are taught both in and outside the classroom. Also since students are more likely to do better when they feel encouraged and…

I believe encouraging progress and development is more important than emphasis on getting the correct answers. This ensures an actual understanding of concepts and more effective retention of information I think that I am extremely patient and a good communicator. Communication in tutoring is key, as no two students are the same, and the tutor has…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire and empower them to become independent learners. This involves not only teaching them course concepts, but also cultivating critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a growth mindset. A tutor should foster curiosity, encourage questions and provide guidance and…

While obviously a tutor is paid to help a student improve their grades or help them study, a tutor that is able to give a student an actual interest in the subject matter is one of the best things a tutor can do. Giving a student an interest in the subject will make them improve their grades even by thereself as they will enjoy studying and seek…

In addition, I believe that tutoring should take a personalised approach to teach students specific academic skills which will help them achieve their own developmental…

I strongly believe the student should be interested in the subject. And I think, it is the role of the tutor to create that interest. The tutor's success is similar to that of a doctor. You succeed when you are no longer needed. I am a student and understand very well the issues students face when doing sums and exams. I believe I have mastered…

The important things a tutor can do for their students include making the subject enjoyable and empowering students to reach a point from where they can arrive at solutions on their own. The first and foremost task for tutors is to make the subject more enjoyable than what the students perceive it to be. Once the students start enjoying the…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

Make them feel comfortable enough to ask any kind of questions and the aim is that they feel confident in problem solving and tackling unfamiliar problems with ease. Inside RandwickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ben practised **elapsed time questions** and worked on identifying and drawing 2D and 3D shapes.

Year 7 student William focused on solving **algebraic equations**, including collecting like terms, as well as applying **Pythagoras' theorem** to problem-solving tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student revised surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders, alongside tackling **advanced factorisation using the difference of two squares formula**.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was hesitant to apply structured working in algebra, preferring mental calculation—he was hesitant to do so—which made it harder to spot method errors during factorisation tasks.

In Year 10 biology, another student avoided asking questions when unsure about cell organelles, making it tough to address misunderstandings on the spot.

A younger learner (Year 4) sometimes left homework incomplete, especially with worded problems that introduced new formats.

One secondary student became distracted mid-lesson (she can get easily distracted, taking her away from the work), which slowed progress through problem-solving practice and left some review tasks unfinished by session's end.

Recent Achievements

One Randwick tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when facing tricky probability questions now bringing his own challenging examples to sessions and breaking them down into clear steps without prompting.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about multi-step algebra problems, surprised himself by flying through practice sets and even correcting his own errors with negative numbers before the tutor stepped in.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student who often rushed through work has started pausing to plan out answers, showing real care with working out—he finished last lesson by neatly solving every multiplication question and checking his methods independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marcellin College.
