Being supportive for a student no matter what the situation is. Creating a realistic goal and achievement for the student and working together to strive towards that. I believe making a student become confident in their own ability is very important. Students sometimes have doubts themselves and I believe I can encourage them to be confident and actually enjoy learning. A tutor should also develop growth in a student and provide a practical path to succeed. I am relatable, hardworking and easy going. I am able…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a space that they feel comfortable to be challenged and to learn in. It’s one thing to just help with answering questions but to encourage and motivate students to take on the difficult concepts even when they're working on their own, this is crucial and shows growth.…

Explain a complex question (for students) in an easier way. Find weaknesses and strengths of every individual, not use the same pattern to treat the whole class. Prompt feedbacks regarding their learning progress and results. I have strong sense of empathy and humor. I see myself as an advanced learner to help younger learner instead of a…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

As a tutor it is my responsibility to make sure the student understands and grasps the concept of the lesson. I am student myself so I know the struggles and the laziness that comes with having to study. I think a tutor should not just focus on studying but also make the study environment a little relaxed and enjoyable as it is hard to concentrate…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to what they are asking, and targeting their weak areas within the prospective subject. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to ultimately listen to the student's need, academically and also personally. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their point of view. Inside Regents ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tom worked through algebraic techniques such as expanding and simplifying by factorising expressions, along with revision of indices and powers of zero.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia focused on coordinate geometry by finding gradients between points and revising congruency proofs using triangles.

For Year 10, Ethan completed lessons on surds—including rationalising denominators—and practiced applying index laws to simplify complex expressions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 and 4 maths, some students often relied on mental calculations rather than writing out working; as one tutor observed, "he needs to practice doing his working out on paper rather than in his head." This habit made it harder to catch small errors with fractions and perimeter.

By Year 7, a pattern emerged: homework was sometimes incomplete or rushed, limiting feedback opportunities—"I would like to see his homework completed with more effort… there were quite a few errors that could have been due to lack of understanding or rushing."

In senior years (Year 10/11), confidence issues became pronounced during multi-step algebra and trigonometry problems. Students hesitated when unfamiliar questions arose, doubting their abilities even after correct answers. This hesitation led to missed marks under exam pressure, especially when layout was messy or shortcuts were taken in working—forcing time-consuming backtracking mid-test.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Regents Park noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through algebra now taking extra care with each step—he's started writing out his full working and catching mistakes himself.

Another high schooler recently surprised herself by walking the tutor through a challenging probability problem aloud, a big change from her earlier hesitation to explain her thinking.

In primary, one student who always guessed at perimeter questions was able to calculate the perimeter independently for the first time this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Regents Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Regents Park Public School.
