The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient with them. Recognising that every student is different, tutors must be able to adapt their teaching style to fit the learning style of the student, and they must do so with a high level of patience and understanding. A tutor should be there to guide and support the student in…

Tutors need to assess, analyse and appraise. Because not every student learns the same way or comes from the same background of experience and understanding it is vital that a tutor establishes their student’s position before commencing with any tutoring. Whether they administer examination, discussion or assessment a tutor should gather…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allowing that student to gain an appreciation for the subject area they are studying. My experience has shown me that students perform at a higher level if they are enthusistic, participatory and are able to demonstrate latent knowledge that has become part of their own knowledge bank.…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student are: 1. Teach them what they need to know 2. Teach them what they want to know and facilitate proper learning methodologies 3. Cultivate a love of learning My deep understanding of the VCE system and the current methods of what the government requires for their students, as well as my…

A tutor is someone who has been in the students' shoes and outgrown them. Throughout the tutor's journey through school, they gain knowledge and strategies which assist them through assessments. Although simply passing on the knowledge of the syllabus is important and an essential part of tutoring, it is the strategies regarding techniques of…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a strong sense of confidence in their abilities. One strength, I feel, is that I have had experience in studying a very broad range of subjects - from classical music theory to forensic science - so I have been exposed to a great variety of teaching styles,…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is always listen to them and know what best works for them. This can mean to always pay attention to a student and understand how they learn effectively. This may mean having to make changes and adaptations to your tutoring style which is fine as long as the student gets the…

Active listening. I believe this is the most important trait and thing a tutor can do for a student. This is because our role is to educate and a way of guiding students to take in information in the best or most efficient way, and part of that is listening actively to what the student wants out of tutoring sessions and adjusting however possible…

Inside Ringwood NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Anaka worked on simultaneous equations and completed a diagnostic set of Year 9 and 10 maths questions to identify strengths.

In Year 11, Kenton reviewed the theory of depreciation missed in class and applied it through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mohammad was tested on last year's Math, Physics, and Chemistry content before addressing specific gaps in each subject with focused revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics, he over-complicated some exam answers, slowing him down and often providing an incorrect answer. This tendency to expand on theory instead of targeting what the question asked led to lost marks, especially when curriculum changes altered expected response formats.

In Year 11 Chemistry, lack of confidence meant Sakura could not recall material during tests—despite knowing it beforehand.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 writing tasks, Melodie struggled to expand on her initial ideas after planning; as a tutor observed, "she needs to really focus on not just planning but then expanding on those ideas." This left her final pieces brief and underdeveloped.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood North noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions in class, now actively seeks clarification on complex math problems and applies new study strategies like the Pomodoro method to stay organised.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to make frequent calculation errors during quantitative reasoning tasks managed to complete a full test significantly faster and with far fewer mistakes than before—demonstrating much better retention and exam technique.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner showed real independence by self-correcting her own spelling errors and expanding her writing without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
