I feel that the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to act as a source of information throughout their time of studying. School can be, and often is, stressful, even if you love the subjects being taught and the teachers teaching them. Therefore, I think the role of a tutor hinges largely on offering support and passing…

The most important things I can do are allow students to understand content and to ask questions freely. Students must be able to consolidate learning with me and I would be able to provide them with the necessary and specific information and learning strategies that allow them to accomplish their academic goals. The most important things an english tutor can do are build a student’s confidence, create a safe space for questions, and teach in a way that suits their learning style. I know how competitive and burdensome academics can be, especially for students in high achieving environments ( e.g Melbourne high), so I believe being a pillar of…

To individualise teachings tailored to the needs of a given student. It is important to accomodate to the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and consequently plan a learning regime in accordance. Likewise, it is imperative that an english tutor has deep understanding of the topic at hand such that I am able to provide profound logical and…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

Naturally, an english tutor's main priority is to provide profound and thorough knowledge through clear communication. I believe that while this is nuclear to the role, this teaching can only be achieved if the tutor also carries other accompanying qualities. This includes patience and listening, aforementioned, and trust. As a tutor, it is…

I think one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the self-confidence that they're able to achieve their goals. Having that self-confidence makes students much more willing to study and work hard because they know that the goals they have set are actually achievable and aren't an insurmountable…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is making sure they have enough confidence and belief in themselves to replicate the work you do together, by themselves. This in the end is the most beneficial skill when it comes to school, because self doubt holds back so many students. Being able to break down concepts into…

Understanding what they understand and don't. If you don't adapt accordingly, not only will it take longer, but even if you can help them understand, you won't foster a sense of confidence in the student for further studies. Adaptability and a deeper understanding of the subject matter I'm teaching, which lets me approach problems from different…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to allow their minds to create their own version of knowledge rather than just gaining a pre-existing idea. It's only when we challenge the students to think out of the box that they actually start realising the importance of what was in the box. Giving them a vivid imagination can be a…

ESTU, Ringwood North

Inside Ringwood NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Anaka worked on simultaneous equations and completed a diagnostic set of Year 9 and 10 maths questions to identify strengths.

In Year 11, Kenton reviewed the theory of depreciation missed in class and applied it through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mohammad was tested on last year's Math, Physics, and Chemistry content before addressing specific gaps in each subject with focused revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics, he over-complicated some exam answers, slowing him down and often providing an incorrect answer. This tendency to expand on theory instead of targeting what the question asked led to lost marks, especially when curriculum changes altered expected response formats.

In Year 11 Chemistry, lack of confidence meant Sakura could not recall material during tests—despite knowing it beforehand.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 writing tasks, Melodie struggled to expand on her initial ideas after planning; as a tutor observed, "she needs to really focus on not just planning but then expanding on those ideas." This left her final pieces brief and underdeveloped.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood North noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions in class, now actively seeks clarification on complex math problems and applies new study strategies like the Pomodoro method to stay organised.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to make frequent calculation errors during quantitative reasoning tasks managed to complete a full test significantly faster and with far fewer mistakes than before—demonstrating much better retention and exam technique.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner showed real independence by self-correcting her own spelling errors and expanding her writing without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
