What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐
In tutoring, the thing I enjoy most is sparking curiosity in students so that they stay passionate in their learning, and so they proactively engage in the learning content. Seeing students actively engage and be intrigued while learning new things truly makes my day and puts a smile on my face. I also enjoy aiding students in learning and digesting new knowledge that helps them in their academic pursuits.
My Strengths as Tutor ๐ช
I use an adaptive teaching style, tailoring lessons to each studentโs level and learning needs to build clear understanding and confidence. I tutor all year levels, adjusting my approach from foundational skills to advanced problem-solving as required. I focus on creating a supportive, flexible learning environment that promotes long-term academic growth.
Most important things I can do for a student ๐
The most important thing I can do is provide clear guidance, structure, and consistency so students steadily improve over time. I focus on building both understanding and confidence, ensuring students feel prepared and capable in their assessments.

About Lawrence
High Performing STEM & English Tutor | UniMelb Engineering
I am a University of Melbourne Electrical Engineering student with strong academic results achieving a 92.20 ATAR and an 40+ study score in VCE Maths Methods and English, 36 in Physics, and being the Dux Proximus of VCE Specialists Math at my school. I specialise in helping students significantly improve their understanding, confidence, and exam performance through clear, structured teaching and proven problem-solving techniques.
Logical Structure Paired with Creative Thinking
- Writing & English: I provide logical frameworks for essays while encouraging creative expression and original voice. I help students move beyond "formulaic" writing to become engaging storytellers and sharp analysts.
- Maths & Physics: I focus on "first principles" so students understand the why behind the math, fostering the creative problem-solving skills needed for complex engineering-style challenges.
Mentorship Rooted in Discipline and Consistency
With 2+ years of tutoring experience including neurodivergent students, I adapt my teaching style to suit each studentโs learning needs, whether they require additional support or are aiming for high academic results. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, develop independence, and build confidence in their abilities.

Aidan was able to connect his knowledge from prior learning and apply it to effectively recall sketching graphs such as hyperbolas and square root graphs. He was also able to successfully identify the implied domain of a number of different functions effectively.
To improve, Aidan can practice more exam style questions and focus completing questions with a time limit, to simulate exam conditions.

Aidan was a fast learner and was able to utilise his prior algebraic skills to effectively find the inverse function. He was able to identify the relationship between the original and inverse functions domain and range and hence find the domain and range of the inverse function.
To improve, Aidan can consolidate his learning by practicing more questions on finding the inverse of a function, especially demonstrating how the restricted domain of the original function can help him in finding the correct inverse function, i.e when the inverse function found has a +-, we take the positive because the range of the inverse=domain of the original function given in the question: (such as x>=0).

Aidan was able to conceptually understand the process of finding the coordinates when given a distance and a gradient, using his past trigonometry skills and problem solving skills.
To improve, Aidan can further consolidate his skills with remembering the specific formula/ equation to use when given a problem, i.e. the formula for finding the angle between the straight line and the Cartesian plane when given the gradient of the line.
Aidan was able to successfully apply his problem solving skills using his knowledge of polynomials to solve polynomial modelling questions.

To improve, Aidan can consolidate application style questions by practicing more questions, using his CAS calculator to assist with solving polynomial modelling questions.
