The most important things tutors can do is to engage their students and ensure that their students are putting in their best effort to improve. My strengths are patience and positivity. I've received feedback from parents that I really help their children to enjoy coming to class. I also have strong attention to detail and provide detailed…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is teach their students problem solving abilities through interaction with a variety of difficult questions, and showing them that even the hardest questions can be solved by thinking critically and going back to basics, rather than teaching extremely specific methods to solve each and every question…

The most important things a tutor can do for their students is to have a genuine interest in the student's development through adopting a patient and flexible teaching method that caters to the student's learning style. This also involves providing them with their time and effort by being accessible outside of class hours via email, as well as…

Being considerate and understanding. As a student that once struggled to do well with certain subjects, I understand the frustration, and how some people might beat themselves for it. I want to reassure people that progress, regardless of how gradual it is, holds significance. I hope to create a supportive learning culture where my students…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to teach them the content for the student to succeed but also to give them guidance on how to tackle schooling more smoothly and provide them with light into what they are genuinely passionate about. I think my strength as a tutor would be how young I am. Since I have just…

It might vary but for me the most important thing is tutor can play a role as a partner in a study journey. Besides teaching, a tutor can be seen as a leader who forms student's way of learning I have patience since I used to tutor a student who is a slow learner and I could still help him improve his grades at…

Not only can a tutor help a student with academics (quite obvious), but they also can help the student relieve stress, by talking to them about their student life and being someone with whom they can share things that maybe they can't talk about with their parents. Teaching has to go hand in hand with maintaining the emotional well-being of the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide enough support, such that a student becomes comfortable with the content they have been taught. In my view a tutor is supplemental to what ever is being taught in school, therefore the best thing a tutor can do is give the student enough confidence to be able to tackle questions…

According to me, the better teacher is the one who can deliver the information to the audience in a much more durable and memorable way. Sometimes you get tutored by professors holding Ph.D. levels but no teaching skills and techniques are being properly used. During my teaching career, I have adopted the idea that the learning process should be…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor for a student is the progress he/she can provide for the individual and minimize the student's weaknesses and show them their potentials. Tutoring provides an individual and unique learning experience. There are things tutors can learn as well in the process while teaching the students as well. It…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build understanding, confidence, and independence in learning. A tutor should provide clear explanations, encourage critical thinking, and help students develop problem-solving skills rather than just giving answers. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment is essential, as it allows…

The most important trait a tutor must do for a student is listen. After all the student is coming to the tutor to learn and clear their doubts, thus the tutor must also be willing to listen to the student when they have any troubles and be patient with the student. From previous experience, as a student, I have had teachers and tutors, teach at…

Inside RookwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ella worked through exam questions and homework on indices, scientific notation, and significant figures, focusing on applying rules to simplify expressions and convert between forms.

Another Year 9 student, Alex, completed a topic test on indices and scientific notation and was assigned worksheets covering algebra, area and perimeter, as well as volume and surface area for extra practice over the break.

For Year 4, Mia reviewed probability using Venn diagrams along with geometry concepts, while also revising addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra and angles often avoided showing full working, especially when rearranging equations—she jumped straight to the answer, which hid calculation slips with negatives.

In Year 10 financial mathematics, one student leaned heavily on calculator statistics mode but struggled when asked to find quartiles manually or check results without digital aids.

For a Year 4 learner practicing division, incomplete memorization of times tables meant repeated hesitations and disrupted progress in multi-step problems.

Across these sessions, skipping careful layout or relying on shortcuts led to confusion during more complex revision tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rookwood recently noticed a Year 8 student who used to avoid multiplication is now confidently reciting both the 10 and 11 times tables from memory, even volunteering to try harder questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who previously struggled with financial mathematics managed to solve straight-line and declining-balance depreciation problems independently after initially needing step-by-step guidance.

In another session, a Year 12 student who was hesitant about networks worked through minimum spanning tree and maximum-flow/minimum-cut theorem questions unaided, choosing the right approach for each scenario on their own initiative.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lidcombe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Homebush West Public School.
