For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help students stop fearing what they don’t know. Once that fear is gone, they can focus on real learning instead of just chasing marks. A tutor’s role is to guide them to see mistakes as part of the process, build their confidence, and make knowledge something they’re curious about rather…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to help the student build confidence in their own ability to learn. It's not just about giving answers, but about encouraging curiosity and helping them develop problem-solving skills. A good tutor should be patient, supportive, and focused on helping the student understand the "why" behind…

Inside Rose ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Naethan revised index laws and practised simplifying fractions for his upcoming test.

In Year 10, Emma tackled quadratic equations by practising completing the square and applying these methods to real-life problem-solving.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah focused on Unit 1 Psychology, reviewing main theories in biological psychology and consolidating key vocabulary and concepts in preparation for her assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 mathematics, one student often completed fraction calculations mentally rather than writing out steps. As noted, "mistakes are barely detected and noticed when you go back and check," leading to lost marks even though the concepts were understood.

In a senior maths session, a student arrived without their calculator or textbook, making it difficult to attempt assigned tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner hesitated to use the method requested by exam questions—opting for shortcuts instead—and missed key working that teachers look for in marking schemes.

Each of these habits resulted in avoidable confusion or missed opportunities during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Rose Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for help now takes initiative with challenging maths problems, trying them independently before asking questions.

In Year 11, Ariana recently completed all her assigned tutoring homework and managed to solve quadratic equations using different strategies without guidance—something she found confusing just weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has started eagerly discussing the concepts from her reader in sessions, moving from passive listening to sharing her ideas and questions about the text.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Norwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rose Park Primary School.
