As a tutor, it is your obligation to teach in a way that your pupil develops a passion for the topic he is learning. There is nothing worst than somebody who is bored while learning. Focusing on deeply understanding and on practical application is key to awaken a desire to continue learning. "If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't…

You must be adaptable, and change according to how each student acts since every individual is very distinct, this will help cater to their differences (such as learning speed). Must also remember to leave no one student behind and pick them up when they fail, help them learn from their mistakes. I am very considerate and patient, thus able to…

It is important for a top achieving student to become academically independent; he must learn how to learn things for themselves and what it really means to understand a concept. A good tutor, I believe can help students become academically independent by trying to build confidence in the student by affirming their self-worth and helping them…

This means identifying gaps in their knowledge, explaining concepts in a way that suits their learning style, and encouraging them to think independently rather than relying on answers. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower them to become independent learners. This involves building confidence by providing encouragement and celebrating successes, fostering a belief in the student's potential. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Help them enjoy learning. The role of a tutor should be to engage the student and make the learning process fun, encouraging them to put more effort into their learning, consequently improving their results. Inside RoseberyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Abby focused on measurement, practising area of circles and surface area of solids through school-aligned worksheets.

For Year 10, Sunny worked on graphing functions and was introduced to trigonometry, including proving problems with algebraic exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Nathan revised quadratic equations using the discriminant (delta method) and tackled transformation of parabolas by finding intersections between parabolas and lines.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student sometimes avoided showing working for absolute value problems with multiple absolute signs; as one tutor noted, "she needed help organizing her steps in proving exercises to avoid confusion and hidden errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 English learner struggled to expand ideas clearly in creative writing—rushed sentence structure left her responses feeling disjointed under timed conditions.

In Year 7 Maths, careless sample space identification affected conditional probability questions: "sometimes got the sample space wrong," observed the tutor, leading to incorrect answers on card deck tasks. After setbacks, visible frustration lingered during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rosebery noticed Sunny, a high school student, now sketches function graphs independently—last term she needed constant prompting for each step.

Another Year 10 student, Ismail, has started completing short algebra quizzes within the set time and gets most answers correct; previously he would leave questions unfinished or need hints to continue.

In a recent session with a younger student, their approach to fractions changed: instead of guessing, they worked through improper-to-mixed conversions out loud and checked their own steps before moving on. The session finished with them tackling harder fraction problems without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gardeners Road Public School.
