Tutoring allows you to know your students better and know their individual needs. Students who go see their teachers during office hours for tutoring perform better because their questions are answered in one-on-one tutoring. I believe in equity. I struggled in school. My parents weren't very educated and couldn't help me with my homework. They…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is to always try to be available for when the student has any questions, queries or needs to speak just in general. The higher the availability, the more the student can benefit from the tutor. I have tutored many students in the past and I have the knowledge and ability to run a tutoring session.…

Besides helping the student with their academic workload, I believe that being someone the student can confide in is important for a chemistry tutor especially in a 1-1 setting. At the end of the day, a tutor who can listen to their student will make it easier for both parties to cooperate and make the student feel more at ease as their worries…

The most important thing would be clearing doubts for a student as I am also a student and I can understand how important it is when a student is confused and is not able to go about with their problems. Problem solving is the key to one's understanding and in addition to this, practice makes everyone perfect. I would be able to help the students…

Inside Runaway BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sophie worked on converting between time units and understanding time zones, using real-life examples for practice.

In Year 9, Riley focused on trigonometry basics and revising area and perimeter problems to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Suneha tackled advanced trigonometric formulas including the reduction formula, as well as laws of logarithms and applying them to solve equations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left both their homework booklet and spelling exercise book at school, which made it difficult to follow up on assigned practice and slowed progress in consolidating new skills.

In Year 10 maths, as a tutor observed, "he hasn't done the homework I gave on the 10th," meaning essential practice for surface area and volume was missed before upcoming assessments.

For a senior Biology assignment, feedback suggested the student struggled to organise draft notes effectively and address teacher comments—this led to confusion when refining the evaluation section.

Each of these moments limited deeper understanding or timely improvement.

Recent Achievements

One Runaway Bay tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who, after struggling to communicate her thinking, now talks herself through algebra and logarithm problems out loud—catching errors and asking for clarification when needed.

A Year 8 maths student, previously hesitant to tackle algebra on her own, completed all of her assigned homework independently this week and even started asking questions about trickier concepts instead of waiting for help.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 boy who used to avoid timed activities asked to be timed during a compound words task and finished it in under 16 seconds.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Runaway Bay Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Biggera Waters State School.
