The most important things a tutor can do for a student is being patient, a good listener, be flexible, a collaborator, being honest, and being confident. I make sure that the student absolutely understands the situation, and try to explain it in simplistic terms. I also will try ask the student to specify the problem they are having to find a…

As previously mentioned, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen. If you do not listen to the students expectations and responsiveness to the material then the sessions will not be productive, and the student will not improve. My strengths are that I am an incredibly patient tutor, as well as a good listener.…

Give them the confidence they need to stay motivated to acheive their Goals. Whether it be merely passing a class or excelling wih 99%, any improvement needs to be congratulated. Be patient, if the student is not understanding your explanation, obviously a different approach is needed. Do not lecture. This the students are already receiving in…

The most important thing a Tutor can do for a student is help them to confidently unlock the door to their own learning potential. I aim to show students the way towards understanding the way they learn and see the world. Once a person understands their own mind, they can take control of their own learning and come across their own methods of…

A tutor can create a positive learning environment as being supportive, encouraging etc. He can understand the strength and weekness of a student and work on them. He should be able to provide explanation to the concepts. Moreover, a tutor should provide constructive and specific feedback to the students so that they can improve their…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to provide constructive but fair feedback to their students, while also providing practical advice and support to them, so they can improve in areas where they were originally struggling. I believe that I am a patient and understanding person, who is quite personable and can talk to people easily. I have…

Inside SamsonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jade reviewed index laws and practised interpreting and sketching linear graphs.

For Year 10, Harry focused on trigonometric ratios and tackled multi-step probability questions using tree diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Aiden explored applications of geometric series in financial contexts and worked through techniques for differentiating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student preparing for Specialist Mathematics exams often didn't have a clear study plan or key exam dates on hand, leading to last-minute revision and gaps in coverage ("Need an outline of when exams and other assessments are").

In Year 9 Maths, another student relied on class notes alone rather than attempting practice questions from the textbook before class—this limited exposure to harder problems.

One tutor noted that a Year 7 student rarely communicated when stuck: "I need to be made aware of when you don't understand something," which meant persistent misunderstandings weren't addressed promptly.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Samson noticed a Year 11 student who used to leave revision until the last minute now sticking to a self-made study plan and even setting up extra practice before an upcoming exam.

In Year 9, another student who often hesitated to try harder problems started regularly attempting more difficult questions during sessions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner—previously quiet and reserved—has begun asking for clarification whenever unclear instead of just nodding along.

Last week, that same student finished writing a full page independently in preparation for their class test.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Coolbellup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Samson Primary School.
