The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them the formulaic way of how to study. There is a set procedure that is unique to every individual and subject of how to fully understand and apply various concepts. Once one is able to find that procedure and develop it, they are able to learn much more in their given subject. In…

I think it is important that a tutor makes lessons engaging and interesting for each student to ensure they understand the content in their own way. Tutors should also be patient and respectful ensuring each student is comfortable and able to express their problems and difficulty in school. I’m very kindhearted, patient and knowledgeable which…

A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas a tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along with the…

Make sure the student has the right attitude towards studying and enjoying as well. I personally think enjoying what you are doing is the most important. From my experience, It is way easier to learn and memorize the things you like. Forcing the student to do something worsens the attitude and possibly the grade as well. I think my biggest…

To me the most important thing a tutor can teach a student is to be confident while applying new knowledge. I am a strong believer that tutors should not only be teachers of knowledge but be mentors to the their students. From my past experience the students I taught, although, picked up new knowledge easily but got scared under pressure. It has…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be honest with the student, and make sure they give their all and try to help the student understand their work. Honesty should be number 1, as the tutor should not try to misguide their student since their future is in their hands. Also, putting 100% of their effort is also important to the student's…

Communication between a tutor and a student is very important. If a student can not understand what a tutor delivers then it is waste of time for both of them. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to set a good example. In many cases that I've seen, students tend to look up to tutors as role models, not just in education, but life in general. Coming from my own experience, I tend to rely on my tutors for more than just explaining to me a maths solution or discussing how to draft an…

A good tutor makes sure the fundamentals actually stick, not just enough to pass a test, so the student can apply it later, not just repeat it. Building confidence matters just as much, since a lot of students struggle more from self-doubt than ability. Adapting your approach when something isn't clicking, and gradually making the student more…

My method of tutoring is through patience and being available to the student. Not every student learns the same and not every student needs a tutor, but the time they start asking several questions for the first time, that is when you need to be available and be patient with every students progress. Inside South GranvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Favour reviewed mistakes from the 2020 Western Past Paper and tackled several questions from the 2019 paper, focusing on clarifying tricky concepts.

Year 12 student went through HSC depreciation questions and selected problems from the WME Trial 2023, addressing practical finance calculations.

Another Year 12 student worked on trigonometry with right-angled triangles and bearings, using textbook exercises to build confidence in applying these skills to exam-style scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 English, one student's essays showed frequent repetition and unclear connections between ideas—"he needs to use a greater variety of connectives in his writing"—making responses harder to follow under timed conditions.

In Year 10 Mathematics, a student often left out units in answers and sometimes forgot essential materials for lessons; as noted, "homework and materials should be brought to every lesson."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to attempt more difficult fraction problems, sticking with familiar examples instead of challenging herself. This led to slower improvement on test-style questions requiring deeper understanding.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in South Granville recently noticed a Year 12 student who, after previously missing marks for unclear essay structure, took feedback on board and began rewriting his thesis statements more thoughtfully, even re-reading completed essays for better analysis.

In another session, a high schooler prepping for the HSC started working with friends outside of lessons to prepare quotes and themes—showing much more initiative than before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once hesitated to ask questions now actively seeks help whenever she's unsure about maths problems, instead of guessing or skipping them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Auburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blaxcell Street Public School.
