I think that tutors must have patience and understand that learning may be slower at some times than others and that all students have different needs. Lessons need to be tailored to each individual's skill level Strenghts: passionate, educated, results driven, conscientious Weaknesses: too passionate, too results driven I want to see my students…

I believe the most important aspects of being a tutor for a student is the support tutors can provide. Tutors must improve a students confidence academically by improving study skills, encourage understanding of content and focus on anything the student may be struggling with. Tutors should also assist students socially by developing strong…

The most important things I can provided to the student are an approachable, enriching learning environment. An enriching learning environment is like a petri-dish full of nutrients. The role of tutors is to help the students absorb as much of these 'nutrients' (i.e. knowledge and skills) as they can in an effective and enjoyable way. I believe my…

Helping them to develop their own learning style, or styles, to perform in a variety of circumstances is one of the most critical things a tutor can impart on a student. Examinations and content will never be delivered in the exact same way, so providing students with the means to navigate the ambiguities of examination and focus purely on the…

I think the most important thing as a tutor is to be patient and listen. Listening to their concerns and weaknesses. Through this, a tutor is able to adjust to their student’s necessities to provide them with the best outcome. My strengths are being willing to improve in my teaching skills to offer the students the best results as well as being…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student is: - To guide the student to the answer not tell them - To not put pressure on the student and work at the student’s pace - To ask the students whether they have something they wish to focus on so we can hone that skill together I believe I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be able to understand their learning goals by communicating well with them, support them mentally through their academic journey by encouraging and teaching them ways on how to deal with obstacles that they must face during their schooling and life in general. As a tutor it is vital that they are encouraging and always find solutions to help a student who may find a certain aspects of a subject difficult or they may not like. It is also important as a tutor to listen and respond to the students needs and goals, and be organised to set those small stepping stones to help the student to achieve that. My…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to establish their confidence, give them the attention, teach the most efficient strategies to succeed in the exam with the least lessons. Students can't succeed in their exam is because there are so-called 'good students' in their class, for multiple reasons, their teachers don't actually…

Inside South TurramurraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sam worked through probability, focusing on basic chance experiments and interpreting results from tables.

In Year 10, Grace practised trigonometric graph sketching and applied the binomial theorem to expansion problems using structured examples.

For Year 12, Daniel revised calculus applications such as differentiation of exponentials and tackled financial maths questions involving compound interest, reviewing past paper questions for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

Several process habits stood out across year levels.

In Year 11 calculus, one student often left revision exercises incomplete and didn't revisit assigned practice, making it hard to retain differentiation methods—"he is also not going back and doing revision exercises that are assigned to him."

Another, working on advanced algebra in Year 10, regularly struggled to start multi-step problems without hints, which slowed progress on unfamiliar application questions.

During a Year 12 statistics lesson, skipping written steps in probability led to errors with CDF and PDF relationships; this meant extra time was spent retracing calculations instead of tackling new material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in South Turramurra noticed that one Year 12 student, after previously hesitating to ask for clarification, now regularly speaks up when stuck on tricky calculus questions and seeks feedback to double-check his approach.

Another high schooler has shifted from needing step-by-step guidance in coordinate geometry to tackling most problems independently and even choosing harder challenge questions during lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently began outlining proofs unaided in class—something he'd struggled with just a week before—and completed the session by successfully presenting his reasoning without prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Turramurra Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Turramurra Public School.
