The most important goal for a tutor is to spark students' interest in the subject. Tutoring is not only about assisting with a student's grade. I do believe, though, that every student should find out what they are enthusiastic about. Due to my dual language proficiency in English and Chinese as an international student, I have experience…

A tutor needs to always be supportive. A student needs a tutor because (s)he wants help. Sometimes not getting a good result can be frustrating for them. A tutor needs to make sure that the students are motivated to improve. I'm good at understanding why the students are stuck, whether it is not knowing how to apply a formula or weak algebraic…

For me, the important thing that I can do for my students is helping them to build confidence. I guess most students tend to hire tutors not because they are not good at the subject somehow, but because they lack confidence and interest in it. Therefore, what I can do is to activate their interests and build up confidence in my way. There are…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help students build their confidence in their ability to learn. This includes helping them form study habits that can aid them in their secondary and tertiary education as well as frequently revising past concepts to help them build a strong foundation for their future learning. I believe my biggest…

Understanding and learning about the child's needs and adapting your teaching style to best suit their needs. It is also important to develop a trusting relationship in which the child knows that the tutor is there to provide them with the best support they can offer to aid their learning. I believe support and encouragement are the most important elements that me as a tutor can help my students. Some students do not like to be pushed, and they need time for themselves as well, so supporting and encouraging them will direct them towards success. Some other students may experience difficulties in study (do not get a good result), so…

A tutor can be the perfect guidance. Besides, a tutor should have abilities to understand the performance of an individual and carry on the task in an easy and correct way. A tutor always should be smart and capable to conduct the task as per the student's abilities. As I have already worked as a teacher for more than three years before. The…

I believe that it is important for tutors to be passionate about teaching. This way, it is easier for the student to gain interest in the subject, which ultimately leads to better performance from the student as they are more motivated to study and learn. I also think that it is important for tutors to create a comfortable learning environment for…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide encouragement and support, and to teach skills for problem solving, learning, and managing workloads. Make the student feel safe is number one and to inspire a love for learning is the goal! 1. A tutor can shape how a student thinks about a particular topic/subject. If while teaching something the tutor himself/herself is not interested then the student will be less likely to pay 100% attention 2. A tutor can empower the student to learn better and at their own pace. Just letting the student know that it is okay if you take more time…

I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

A tutor MUST make the student comfortable with their learning by building a friendship with them, so that they always want to return to EZY Math Tutoring. A tutor must also put aside everything else in their life to assist the student: even if I have a bad day I cannot let that lessen my performance while teaching the student. Finally, a tutor…

Inside SpringfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alex focused on linear relationships by finding x- and y-intercepts and interpreting graph features, as well as preparing for a test on solving equations.

Year 10 student Matilda worked through an assignment on exponential growth in maths and completed a biochemistry report covering electronegativity and dipoles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Molly concentrated on chemistry revision, specifically equilibrium concepts from topic 2.2, using targeted practice questions to consolidate understanding before her upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student was overly reliant on the structure of previous problems, sometimes copying steps without adapting to new question types in calculus. This meant that small mistakes—like sign errors—slipped through, and the formatting of answers was occasionally unclear, making it harder for examiners to follow working.

In Year 10 science, one student had not completed much independent work on an assignment between lessons; as noted, "one hour a week is not sufficient" for high-level results, leading to stress close to deadlines.

Meanwhile, a primary student struggled with conversions and often used addition instead of multiplication when tackling large-number word problems.

Recent Achievements

A Springfield tutor noticed one Year 11 student, previously hesitant to edit her own work, now independently revising assignment drafts after receiving teacher feedback—she even handed in a new version with thoughtful corrections.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student who used to wait for help has started referencing articles and writing major parts of her science assignment without prompting.

In a recent Springfield tutoring session with a primary student, Sarah showed a big shift by solving multiplication problems alone, needing far less guidance than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mitcham Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mercedes College.
