Be kind and patient, and be able to adjust learning plans for the student. I am that I am a compassionate person who believes in the potential of all people. Nobody is unable to succeed, they just might require different solutions to the same struggle. I also believe myself to be good at breaking down topics, as I did this multiple times for my…

Provide support both academically and mentally. This can be done through practicing a topic of a subject, and also helping schedule their weeks, so they know they will still have social/leisure time, and maximize their grades and themselves. I am incredibly confident and happy to also learn new things. For example, if a student comes to me and…

I think the most important thing is taking the pressure off being “perfectâ€. There is no such thing as perfection and everyone reaches success differently. What works for one person may not work for another and in standardised exams, this often gets misconstrued, adding to the weight of being the perfect student. My patience and positive…

Modern History Tutor Gosford, NSW
Being a past past studnet at many various tutoring places, the most important quality for a tutor is to able to incur a friendly yet working relationship with their students. This will help students to be comfortable enough to ask any questions about concepts they do not understand. As I have just finished high school last year, I believe I will…

Inside St Huberts IslandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Charlotte worked on multiplying fractions by integers and converting between improper fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals.

In Year 8, Yillen focused on applying Pythagoras' Theorem to right-angled triangles and revising area calculations for composite shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ava practised using trigonometric ratios (SOHCAHTOA) to solve for unknown sides in triangles and revised the relationship between speed, distance, and time through worded problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student often left his notes and school workbook at school, which made revision for an upcoming exam difficult—"he didn't have any guidelines for revision," the tutor noted.

A Year 10 student relied heavily on having a calculator handy, sometimes stalling when it was misplaced or unavailable.

In senior years, time management surfaced as a key challenge: "Time went by really quickly after looking at only a couple of questions."

Meanwhile, a primary student hesitated to write out working for maths problems, especially when rearranging equations, which led to missed sign errors in algebra.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in St Huberts Island recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when stuck now actively asks for help during sessions and even requested extra homework to push himself further.

Another high schooler, after struggling with rearranging formulas in algebra, was able to tackle worded questions independently and started identifying where values needed to be substituted without prompting.

For a Year 4 student, recognising odd and even numbers has become second nature, and she's begun explaining her reasoning out loud—something she previously avoided. Last week, she confidently solved every example the tutor set for her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Umina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woy Woy Public School.
