The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there with them, really listening and understanding. When we connect on a personal level and show genuine interest, it sparks their curiosity and makes them want to learn more. As a tutor, my goal is to light that fire within them, to make them excited about the subject and eager to…

Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to guide, support, and inspire them. It’s not just about helping them memorise content or score higher marks — it’s about helping them build confidence, curiosity, and the right mindset towards learning. A good tutor should create a space where students feel comfortable…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think a tutor…

Building confidence is the best thing a tutor can do for a student. Students may need tutors because they don't enjoy the subject, they find it hard, they do poorly, or all of the above. The tutors' role is to be the balance between a teacher and a friend. Helping them understand the questions they have in a relaxed environment is a good way to…

Treat each student as an individual person. The same methods of tutoring might not apply on the other. Moreover patience is necessary. Tutors should maintain a pace comfortable for the student. Tutors should be humble enough to admit if they don't know few answers and should be able to research and provide the answers to the student. I learn…

To provide support in a one on one fashion is extremely valuable. Having extra tools and strategies to tackle questions can only increase ones confidence, which is to say, a tutor can provide what is not always provided in the classroom. It is ultimately this process of developing more confidence and independence in learning that is crucial to…

Inside Strathmore HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jonas focused on multiplication and subtraction strategies, working through examples to strengthen his calculation skills.

In Year 8, Louis reviewed negative numbers and basic algebra, using practice problems to build confidence with equations involving negatives.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily tackled linear equations in two variables and quadratic equations, focusing on factorisation techniques and applying them to exam-style questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, one student frequently rushed through algebra steps, leading to sign errors and missed marks; as noted, "he needs to slow down sometimes and follow the steps."

For a Year 11 English assignment, another student didn't realize an essay required 100 words—skipping instructions due to not checking task requirements.

In Year 7 Maths, forgetting basic materials or over-relying on mental maths left gaps in recalling negative number rules.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on reading would skip lines of text and misread punctuation, which made understanding stories harder and slowed their progress during sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Strathmore Heights tutor noticed a Year 9 student who previously got stuck with negative numbers now working through these problems much more smoothly, only occasionally needing reminders.

In another session, a high schooler took the initiative to start writing down new vocabulary and definitions during reading—something he'd resisted before—which helped him read an entire stave without stopping for help.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 5 surprised her tutor by explaining each error she found in her own narrative and even started sharing thoughtful opinions about her book club novel "Wonder."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Strathmore North Primary School.
