I believe the most important thing is to have a routine, be reliable, and to have the student be a part of every decision in their learning. My time with a student is not about a test or exam. It is about creating the skills for a student to be able to improve as they move through school and beyond. This is something that is going to be…

Modern History Tutor Hamlyn Terrace, NSW
The most important thing a tutor could do is create a safe environment for the student. Learning can be more comprehensive and explicit once the student is comfortable around their tutor’s presence. The tutor also must maintain and adhere to an elaborate study plan to help the student. I am very patient and would never snap even on being asked…

Local Reviews

Madeleine has shown our daughter such patience & kindness. We have only had a few sessions and so far it has encouraged our daughter to do more maths in between her sessions with Madeleine. Let's hope the trajectory continues but so far we are off to a good start!

Inside TuggerawongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Chloe worked on converting fractions to decimals and multiplying fractions, as well as practicing time skills using the 24-hour clock.

Year 8 student Lucas explored scientific notation and applied trigonometric ratios, including solving problems involving triangles with diagrams.

For Year 10, Priya tackled financial maths by calculating interest amounts and interpreting time periods and rates of interest, while also reviewing key concepts in linear inequalities.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student faced challenges with inequalities, as "ran out of time to fully cover" meant they couldn't consolidate algebra and simultaneous equations—time management during lessons remains an issue.

In Year 7 algebra, skipping key steps in problems led to errors with brackets and signs; one tutor noted, "needs to focus on each step especially brackets and signs."

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner avoided writing out full working for fraction-to-decimal conversions, often erasing mistakes rather than correcting them openly. This made it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings, slowing progress when new concepts appeared in later sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Tuggerawong tutor noted that a Year 11 student, Josh, who previously struggled with algebraic substitution, was able to solve simultaneous equations independently after working through his sticking points step by step.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor observed a shift: instead of guessing when stuck on ratios and rates, she began asking targeted questions to clarify her thinking before attempting each problem.

Meanwhile, during primary sessions, one younger student who often hesitated with word problems about time surprised his tutor by drawing clocks accurately for both 12-hour and 24-hour formats without any prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lake Haven Library & Council Services—or at your child's school (with permission), like Tuggerawong Public School.
