What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most and find most fulfilling about tutoring is watching the progress of a tutee throughout sessions. In my previous tutor job, when a child did not understand a specific concept I would start from the very beginning and take steps from the basics to the harder exam questions to ensure they really grasped the understanding of a subject. I really enjoyed reaching the ‘end point’ where I was able to give them hard questions, abie my able to see that they fully understood something that a few sessions prior they could barely define.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
On a communication level, I am very talkative, bubbly warm and feel that this is important for having a child be open and honest about concepts they don’t understand/ questions they may have. To me, this is the base of a good tutor as you have to understand a three’s weaknesses to help them grow. Additionally, when I was growing up and taking my exams I used to have my own ways of learning things and so I understand the importance of tailoring specific solutions to concepts and problems that align with a child’s existing understanding. This is essential for improvement.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
To make them self - sufficient and give them the confidence to tackle problems and subjects on their own. While a tutee may understand the question you give them/ the explanation for the solution, it is important they can replicate this themselves for other questions as they are not going to have a tutor for support in the exams !
